Senior Structural Engineer
Contract: Cheshire East Highways
Location: Congleton
Contract Type: Permanent
This role involves leading the design and delivery of highway structure replacement, refurbishment and improvement schemes across Cheshire East. Using strong technical expertise in highway structures, including Design Standards, DMRB, MCHW and Eurocodes, the successful candidate will develop high-quality, practical solutions to complex structural challenges.
Working closely with the Structures Manager, the Senior Engineer will supervise and mentor junior staff while taking responsibility for the planning, coordination and successful delivery of allocated schemes. The role requires a proven track record in highway structures project delivery, along with the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are therefore essential to success in this position.
The Role
1. Prepare, design, plan and programme highway structures works and services
2. Provide clear and effective project leadership
3. Provide assistance in the management and monitoring of works programmes or services
4. Plan and deliver work safely in accordance with CDM and Health and Safety policy
5. Mentor junior staff and checking their work
About You
6. Design expertise with Eurocodes and modern standards, DMRB
7. Working knowledge of preparation of contract specifications, use of MCHW
8. Extensive knowledge and application of Highway Legislation, relevant structures design procedures, standards and good practice
9. Knowledge and experience of budgetary governance, management and control measures
10. Knowledge and application of Health and Safety legislation including Construction (Design & Management) Regulations
