Reporting To - Senior Transport Manager / Operations Director
Job Summary
We are seeking a Transport Manager to lead and oversee the daily operations of the haulage function, ensuring the efficient, safe, and compliant movement of goods across local, regional, and national routes.
The successful candidate will be responsible for driving operational efficiency, maintaining high service standards, and supporting the continued growth and development of the haulage operation.
Main Duties
* Oversee daily haulage operations, ensuring compliance with all legal obligations, industry standards, and health & safety regulations
* Provide clear leadership to operational teams, including drivers, transport office staff, and wider site functions
* Manage customer relationships, ensuring a consistently high standard of service delivery and communication
* Drive financial performance, including profit and loss accountability and effective resource planning
* Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team, including performance management and staff development
* Ensure full compliance with operator licence requirements, tachograph regulations, and the Working Time Directive
* Support and implement continuous improvement initiatives across operations
Required Skills, Competencies and Experience
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience in transport or haulage operations in a leadership role
* Proven experience managing large teams and multi-vehicle fleets
* Strong knowledge of transport law, compliance, and safety regulations
* In-depth understanding of operator licence requirements, tachograph legislation, and working time regulations
* Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
* Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively
* Flexible approach to working hours when required
* Strong strategic and operational planning capabilities
* Positive and proactive approach to leading change
