The Barts Heart Centre is the biggest in the UK with its complement of 10 catherisation labs (5 of which are dedicated to Intervention) and 10 cardiothoracic theatres.

St Bartholomew’s Hospital is one of a group of hospitals – Barts Health NHS Trust – providing a huge range of clinical services to the population of East London, the City of London, and beyond.

Opportunities exist within all Barts Heart Centre departments to undertake research and education as a part of the Centre of Excellence Strategy of the Trusts.

This appointment is for a Consultant in Clinical Pharmacology with a specialist interest in Hypertension. The post is based at both St Bartholomew’s Hospital and the Royal London Hospital. The post-holder will expand our team at the internationally renowned Bart’s BP Centre of Excellence. The appointee will be joining the academic department of Clinical Pharmacology which has 2 full-time academic consultants and 2 full-time NHS consultants and Specialty Trainees. The Clinical Pharmacology team manages both the Hypertension service (inpatient and outpatient) and has developed a further specialist interest in Cardiovascular Autonomic dysfunction including disorders such as Postural Tachycardia Syndrome. The Clinical Pharmacology department sits within the Cardiovascular Clinical Academic Group Bart’s Health NHS Trust.

The post-holder will specialise in the investigation and treatment of complex BP disorders working collaboratively with the other consultants in the department of Clinical Pharmacology. We provide both secondary and tertiary level care for Hypertension. The department has also developed a specialist interest in Cardiovascular Autonomic dysfunction and runs clinics for this at Bart’s hospital. If interested, then training can be provided to the post holder to further develop skills in this area.
