Overview
This is a 1 PA per week role as a Year 3 medical student tutor in the North Bristol Academy. The post is open to academic and NHS consultant and SAS staff. The post is for a fixed period of 3 years but is renewable for a further 3 years subject to satisfactory annual educational appraisals. The post is expected to commence in May 2026. Candidates should indicate how this role would be undertaken within or following negotiation in their job plan at the time of application.
Main duties
* Each tutor group consists of between 8 and 10 Year 3 medical students. You will be expected to meet with your tutor group weekly during term time (32 weeks of the year).
* Provide a point of first contact for general pastoral issues.
* Listen to and support student presentations, facilitate discussion about their content, and provide feedback on content and presentation style.
* Agree with students the topics of tutor group presentations and facilitate their preparations for presentations.
* Monitor the attendance of students at the tutor groups.
* Review students’ clerking portfolios on a regular basis.
* Undertake individual mid-point and end-point reviews for all students on their ePortfolios, providing summative feedback in accordance with the University of Bristol Year 3 Student Progression document.
* Identify and help to correct any incidental deficiencies in the students’ achievement of learning objectives (e.g., due to an unexpected absence of a learning opportunity).
* Meet with the Year 3 Academy Lead from time to time to review the delivery of the course.
* Attend central University Year 3 meetings.
* Be an examiner at the annual Year 3 Objective Structured Clinical Examinations which take place in June.
* Contribute to the overall assessment process on behalf of the North Bristol Academy which may also include examining Year 4 students.
