Low Voltage Jointer & Street Lighting Technician

Monday - Thursday: 7:30 am - 3:30 pm
Friday: 7:30 am - 3:00 pm
Pay Rate:
£20.38 per hour, £30.57 per hour overtime (equivalent to £39,208 per annum)
Job Purpose:
To carry out Low Voltage (LV) service jointing on three-phase distribution networks and the installation, maintenance, and electrical testing of street lighting systems. This role involves routine and non-routine fault finding, repairs, and maintenance of street lighting infrastructure, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
Main Responsibilities:
* Prepare cables and carry out LV service jointing including service transfers, disconnections, and connections to mains (PVC/PILC).
* Installation of street lighting columns and routine electrical street lighting maintenance.
* Conduct non-routine maintenance, including fault finding, troubleshooting, and repairs on street lighting.
* Perform electrical testing on street lighting circuits and components.
* Excavation and reinstatement of joint holes as required.
* Operate company vehicles and specialist equipment safely and efficiently.
* Use hand-held electronic devices to record job information and updates.
* Conduct risk assessments and work in accordance with company policies and health & safety procedures.
* Work independently or as part of a team, including supervising jointers' mates or a working party.
* Attend emergency call-outs as required to resolve faults or issues promptly.
Experience & Qualifications:
* NVQ Level 3 in Highway Electrical Work (essential).
* Proven experience in LV jointing and street lighting installation and maintenance.
* Experience working on National Grid or similar networks is desirable.
* Competent in electrical testing and fault diagnosis in street lighting systems.
* Full, clean driving license (to operate company vehicles).
Health & Safety:
* This is a safety-critical role requiring compliance with all health & safety standards.
* Annual mandatory health assessments including working at height and comprehensive safety assessments are required.
* PPE including gloves, hard hats, goggles, specialist boots, and boiler suits will be provided and must be worn at all times.
Key Challenges:
* Working across multiple counties, requiring effective time management and planning.
* Managing both planned and emergency maintenance work efficiently.
* Maintaining high safety standards in a potentially hazardous working environment.
