The Strategy Lead shapes and delivers B&Q’s long‑term strategy by leading structured problem‑solving, developing insight‑led recommendations, and supporting delivery of strategic initiatives. Acting as an internal consultant, the role partners with key stakeholders to address critical strategic questions, identify growth opportunities, and translate market and customer insights into actionable outcomes.
What's the job?
Strategy Consulting & Development
* Lead the development of strategic analyses to inform B&Q’s long‑term direction, including market, customer, competitor and trend assessments.
* Frame complex strategic questions, developing clear hypotheses and robust, data‑led answers.
* Generate external insight and thought leadership to challenge current thinking and inform decision‑making at senior levels.
* Identify, size and evaluate strategic growth opportunities across B&Q’s core and adjacencies.
* Build clear strategic cases, including value pools, strategic fit, right‑to‑win and delivery implications.
* Support the end‑to‑end journey from strategy definition through to mobilisation and delivery.
* Support senior leaders with key insights to support the development of strategic initiatives.
* Facilitate and align stakeholders around strategic priorities, choices and trade‑offs.
* Provide frameworks, tools and strategic guidance to help functions develop aligned strategies and plans.
* Supports with the early stages of implementation of key strategic projects.
Planning, Governance & Execution
* Build high‑quality analyses and models to support strategic recommendations.
* Produce clear, compelling presentations for Executive, Board and Strategy Forums.
* Translate complex ideas into practical, decision‑ready insights.
* Support the annual strategic planning process as required.
* Drive the right governance approach to move strategic concepts through to delivery stage.
What We Need
* Strong structured problem‑solving and strategic thinking capability.
* Advanced analytical skills, including financial and commercial modelling.
* Ability to synthesise complex information into clear, actionable insights.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including senior‑level storytelling.
* Comfortable operating in ambiguity and shaping problems from first principles.
* Collaborative, with the ability to influence without authority.
* Pragmatic and delivery‑focused, balancing strategic ambition with execution reality.
* Curious, externally oriented and continuously learning.
* Experience in strategy consulting, corporate strategy, commercial strategy or a similar role.
* Proven track record of working on complex, cross‑functional strategic initiatives.
* Experience within retail, consumer, services is advantageous but not essential.
* Exposure to senior stakeholder engagement and executive‑level decision support.
