The Role
Africlinix is seeking a highly motivated Head of Business Development to lead sponsor engagement and commercial growth across the UK, Europe, and global biotechnology markets.
This role will focus on identifying and securing clinical trial opportunities that can be executed across Africlinix’s African clinical research network.
The successful candidate will play a key role in building partnerships with:
* pharmaceutical companies
* biotechnology firms
* vaccine developers
* diagnostics companies
The position reports directly to the Founder and Director of Africlinix.
Key Responsibilities
Sponsor Identification
* Identify pharmaceutical, biotechnology, vaccine, diagnostic, and medical device companies with active clinical development programs.
* Map sponsor pipelines suitable for clinical trials across African patient populations.
Sponsor Engagement
* Establish relationships with decision-makers in sponsor organisations.
* Arrange meetings with clinical development, outsourcing, and business development teams.
* Present Africlinix’s clinical research capabilities and African investigator network.
Business Development Strategy
* Develop and manage a commercial pipeline of sponsor opportunities.
* Lead proposal development and feasibility discussions.
* Negotiate commercial terms for clinical trial contracts.
Market Intelligence
Provide strategic insights on:
* emerging biotech companies
* therapeutic areas with high clinical trial demand
* clinical trial outsourcing trends
Pipeline Management
* sponsor engagement status
* deal stage
* estimated contract value
* proposal opportunities
Performance Expectations
* 3–5 qualified sponsor leads per quarter
* 1–2 proposal opportunities per quarter
* successful clinical trial contracts with international sponsors.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences
* Biomedical Sciences
* Biology
* Biochemistry
* Pharmacology
* Biotechnology
* Medical Sciences
OR
* Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or Management with experience in the life sciences sector.
Desirable Qualifications
* Master’s degree in Life Sciences
* MSc in Clinical Research
* MBA with healthcare or life sciences focus
Professional Certifications
* ICH Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification
* ACRP Certification (Association of Clinical Research Professionals)
* SOCRA Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP)
Experience Requirements
Candidates should have at least 7–10 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
* CRO business development
* pharmaceutical clinical operations
* biotechnology partnerships
* clinical trial outsourcing
* clinical research project management
Preferred Experience
* Contract Research Organisations (CROs)
* pharmaceutical companies
* biotechnology firms
* global clinical development teams
* clinical trial vendor selection processes
Candidates with prior experience in CRO sales or sponsor acquisition are strongly encouraged to apply.
