Mechanical Engineer
Role Purpose
The Mechanical Engineer will support the delivery, operation, and continuous improvement of mechanical building services across a complex, multi-building estate. The role focuses on ensuring mechanical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in line with statutory, contractual, and sustainability requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Support the operation, maintenance, and optimisation of mechanical systems including HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and associated plant
Provide technical input into planned and reactive maintenance activities
Review mechanical designs, specifications, and technical submissions for compliance with standards and client requirements
Assist with the delivery of mechanical projects, upgrades, and lifecycle replacement works
Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and carbon reduction
Ensure all mechanical works comply with relevant legislation, health & safety standards, and industry best practice
Liaise with internal teams, specialist subcontractors, and stakeholders to coordinate works and resolve technical issues
Support fault finding, root cause analysis, and corrective actions for mechanical plant failures
Maintain accurate technical documentation, reports, and asset records
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
Experience working with mechanical building services in a complex estate (e.g. healthcare, education, commercial, or research environments)
Sound knowledge of HVAC systems, plant rooms, and mechanical infrastructure
Familiarity with relevant standards and legislation (e.g. H&S, pressure systems, water hygiene)
Desirable:
Working towards or holding professional registration (e.g. IEng or CEng)
Experience in energy management or sustainability-focused projects
Knowledge of CAFM systems and asset management practices
