Overview
Two Research Associate (Fixed Term) positions are available in the laboratory of Professor Andres Floto at the Department of Medicine, University of Cambridge, to work on multidisciplinary collaborative projects that study the mechanisms and routes of antibiotic uptake, efflux, and metabolism across multiple bacterial pathogens.
The successful candidates will be part of a larger multidisciplinary team and will benefit from exciting preliminary findings and novel methods to interrogate and predict drug accumulation and metabolism in multiple bacteria.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate with lab members and collaborators to ensure quality of work.
* Conduct experiments and contribute to data collection and analysis relevant to antibiotic uptake, efflux, and metabolism across bacterial pathogens.
* Adhere to biosafety requirements (BSL-2) and maintain accurate documentation of methods and results.
Qualifications
* PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related areas, or be close to completing the degree; enthusiastic about collaborative and interdisciplinary research; adaptable to a multicultural environment; highly organized and able to work under pressure.
* Previous lab experience in CRISPR technology and gram-negative organisms is essential.
* Experience in a BSL-2 environment and mass spectrometry (small molecules or metabolomics) is desirable but not essential.
* Applicants must have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD. Appointment at Research Associate level depends on having a PhD; those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD may be appointed as a Research Assistant (Grade 5) moving to Research Associate (Grade 7) upon confirmation of the PhD award.
