External Sales Manager – Timber Industry

£50,000 - £60,000 + Bonus + Company Car
If you know timber and you know how to sell, this is a role where you can make serious impact. We’re looking for a driven External Sales Manager to take charge of a thriving region, grow key accounts, and unlock new opportunities across the timber and construction supply chain.
This isn’t a desk job. You’ll be out in the field, in front of customers, spotting opportunities early and turning conversations into commercial wins.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll have full ownership of your territory, balancing account management with new business growth:
* Develop new business across timber merchants, garden building manufacturers, joinery manufacturers, and related sectors
* Grow and strengthen existing accounts
* Conduct regular site visits to uncover upcoming projects and opportunities
* Prepare and deliver competitive quotations alongside internal teams
* Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms to maximise margin and long-term value
* Provide technical advice on timber grades, treatments, and structural applications
* Track your pipeline, manage forecasts, and stay on top of performance
* Keep a close eye on market trends, competitor activity, and pricing shifts
* Work closely with operations to ensure smooth delivery and happy customers
* Represent the business professionally
What You Bring
You’re commercially sharp, resilient, and comfortable owning a sales number:
* Proven external sales experience within the timber or building materials sector
* Strong knowledge of softwood timber
* A natural relationship builder with confidence at all levels
* Skilled negotiator who understands pricing, margins, and value
* Proactive mindset
* Highly organised, able to manage a busy territory effectively
* Strong prospecting, closing, and account development skills
* Confident communicator with solid presentation ability
* Comfortable using systems and Microsoft Office tools
