WSP has a large, highly experienced and friendly Ecology team who get involved with a diverse range of multi-disciplinary projects within the UK for both private and public clients. The team pride themselves on the integrated support offered by working alongside our in-house water, landscape, arboriculture, Natural Capital and sustainability specialists to deliver commercially balanced, innovative and integrated solutions.
With one of the UK’s largest ecology teams with a growing portfolio of projects, WSP is looking to appoint an assistant or consultant grade Environmental Clerk of Works to help support our growing portfolio of project work at construction stage. We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced environmentalist with a background in construction and construction management plans; and demonstrable experience in undertaking pre-construction surveys.
Job Responsibilities
* Visiting construction sites across a variety of industries to monitor adherence to environmental legislation.
* Carry out site inspections and audits of construction works against planning conditions and associated documents.
* Drafting species protection plans and precautionary methods of works for a variety of species.
* Undertaking protected species surveys and licence applications where relevant.
* Provide guidance and solutions to contractors on environmental compliance and best practice methods.
* You would be a key point of contact, working closely with other disciplines, notably ecologists, hydrologists, archaeologists and engineers to provide an integrated EnvCoW service.
* Delivery of toolbox talks and onsite environmental guidance to contractors.
* The delivery of a EnvCoW role may require working away from home between Monday-Friday.
* Compilation of weekly site reports and supporting team management with administration tasks.
Requirements
* A CSCS card (or in the process of gaining one).
* A full UK drivers licence.
* Confident in habitats and protected species ecology.
* An understanding of ecological management in a construction context.
* An understanding of the environmental impact assessment legislation, policy and guidance.
* An understanding of Controlled Activities Licencing (CAR) and pollution prevention.
* Comprehensive knowledge of relevant wildlife legislation.
* Experience of monitoring construction activities in line with best practice guidance from small to large sized projects.
* The need to be well organised, pro-active, reliable and willingness to travel between project sites.
* The ability to be pragmatic and be solutions driven.
* Can work under short time pressure to resolve emerging environmental issues on site.
* Ability to be communicate effectively, hold high interpersonal skills and able to communicate confidently with clients.
