Manufacturing Engineer
Generate manufacturing plans such as optimized cell layouts, value stream maps, timing charts, and process flow diagrams to provide robust solutions that maximize ROI and reduce hours/costs per unit. Ensure process capability, cycle time, and equipment availability targets are achieved.
Collaborate closely with the product manufacturing engineering team, materials, and process engineers to promote failure mode avoidance in future designs and develop our industrialization strategy.
Influence design to ensure manufacturing considerations are integrated during product development, prioritizing design for manufacture and assembly throughout the project.
Champion APQP and PPAP within the NPI process; drive the creation of PFMEA, Control Plans, and derive facility requirements for inline process control to demonstrate a capable process on-site and within the supply chain.
Liaise with suppliers and the internal Sourcing team to coordinate equipment and tooling acquisition, and plan installation and commissioning. Lead the development of a pilot line to define a scalable facility that showcases new technology, automation, and lean manufacturing principles for GE Aerospace's next-generation propulsion system.
Support value engineering activities to assist the business in make/buy decisions on core and non-core parts and components.
Utilize virtual manufacturing tools to simulate workflow, automation, and space requirements, informing manufacturing engineering plans and supporting investment decisions.
Serve as the point of contact between the NPI team and support functions to coordinate and manage manufacturing engineering projects efficiently.
Work hands-on with manufacturing and engineering teams to resolve manufacturing issues using data, rationale, and logic. Knowledge in robotics, automation, and controls installation and commissioning is essential.
Demonstrate expertise in high-volume composite manufacturing (CFRP/RTM), CNC machining, hydraulic systems, high-tolerance assembly, and NDT methods like X-Ray and Ultrasonics.
Experience with CAD software such as 3D Catia, 2D AutoCAD, or similar is required.
Experience in highly regulated industries (preferably aviation) is advantageous. Knowledge of 3D printing, rapid prototyping, condition-based monitoring, real-time data acquisition, virtual manufacturing, and tooling simulation software is desirable.
Understand NPV and FV calculations. A bachelor’s degree in engineering and experience in technical project/program management within manufacturing engineering is required.
Experience with NPI processes, facility design, commissioning in automated manufacturing environments, and knowledge of problem-solving methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, PPS, RedX) are essential.
Ability to manage suppliers and vendors, knowledge of health & safety and CDM regulations, and a self-starter attitude are important. Ability to influence across organizational levels with a data-driven approach is needed.
