The Travel Trainer will deliver and manage travel training programs to empower learners with disabilities to achieve independent travel. This role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, maintaining accurate records, and promoting the values and ethos of the College. Key Responsibilities Travel Training Delivery: ● Deliver travel training to a range of learners through preparation, research, and liaison with colleagues, parents, carers, or guardians. ● Enable and empower learners to achieve a specific level of competency for independent travel within agreed timescales. ● Demonstrate learning strategies appropriate for individuals on the Autistic Spectrum and/or with other disabilities. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Promote College Values: ● Promote the aims and ethos of the College within both the teaching and learning context and the broader corporate life. ● Be a role model for positive behaviour, demonstrating College values in daily interactions with students and colleagues. ● Contribute to creating a positive learning environment, ensuring students’ development, well-being, and independence. Assessment and Documentation: ● Manage and organise caseloads, timetables, and referrals. ● Assess and record individual learner achievements against agreed targets, action plans, and EHCP criteria. ● Undertake route assessments, complete risk assessments, and plan routes, implementing control measures for learner safety. ● Maintain accurate records of activities on Databridge. Communication and Reporting: ● Complete correspondence and written reports within agreed timescales for parents, carers, guardians, and Local Authorities. ● Act as a point of contact for parents/carers/guardians regarding travel training progress. ● Provide information, support, and training to QAC learners and contribute to the success of the Rehabilitation and Travel Training Team. Collaboration and Support: ● Participate in the pastoral welfare of learners, ensuring their health and safety. ● Work as part of an interdisciplinary team, providing high-quality support for students with a range of disabilities. (Parents Evenings) ● Develop and maintain links with other professionals involved in student support, such as Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Behavioural Teams, and Speech and Language Therapists. ● Implement and follow behaviour support strategies, liaising with student support colleagues and attending relevant training updates. Professional Development and Compliance: ● Participate in ongoing staff development to enhance knowledge of disabilities and relevant communication methods. ● Adhere to the College’s Health and Safety Policy and all other policies and procedures. ● Act in accordance with the Staff Code of Conduct and QAC Values of Respect, Excellence, Enabling, Collaboration, and Inclusion. ● Maintain CPD, undertake appropriate training, and perform other duties as agreed with the RATT Support Area Manager. General Duties: ● Attend team and service meetings as required. ● Participate in regular supervision, performance reviews, and appraisals to develop and improve practice. ● Engage in individual or collaborative research and consultative work as relevant to the area of work. ● Contribute on an occasional and voluntary basis to the corporate life of the College. Qualifications and Skills: ● Hold relevant qualifications in Maths and English. ● Display good interpersonal skills with learners and staff, command professional respect, and work to a high professional standard. ● Be well-organised, reliable, and able to manage caseloads effectively. Work Conditions: ● Full-time (37 hours a week, 41 weeks a year- negotiable) On the very odd occasion (rarely)- including evenings and weekends as necessary to meet learner needs. ● The responsibilities and duties may vary from time to time without changing the nature of the post, requiring a flexible approach. Safeguarding: ● Comply with Safeguarding guidelines; all appointees must have a DBS check and two references. By fulfilling these responsibilities, the Travel Trainer will significantly contribute to the empowerment and independence of visually impaired learners, ensuring their safe and effective travel training within the College’s supportive framework.
