About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Enfield Council's Waste Enforcement Team. This high-profile role is at the frontline of tackling environmental crime, helping to keep our borough clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.

You will play a key role in seeking long-term solutions to persistent problems and working with partners to deter repeat offending.

Key Responsibilities

As a Waste Enforcement Officer, you will:

* Lead investigations into waste and environmental offences, including fly-tipping, littering, storage and presentation of domestic and commercial waste.
* Gather evidence, prepare case files, and present evidence in court.
* Issue Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs), statutory notices, and Community Protection Notices where appropriate.
* Conduct witness and suspect interviews in line with PACE.
* Deploy mobile CCTV cameras and seize vehicles involved in waste crime.
* Respond to service requests, councillor enquiries, FOIs in a professional and timely manner.
* Work in partnership with the Police, internal council teams, and external agencies.
* Engage with residents and businesses to encourage compliance and prevent environmental crime.

Essential Skills and Experience

We are looking for a proactive and motivated enforcement officer who can demonstrate:

* Experience in issuing FPNs, legal notices, and preparing documentation for court proceedings.
* Knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, Control of Pollution Act, and PACE.
* Strong IT skills, with confidence in using MS Office and case management systems.
* Excellent customer care skills, with the ability to deal sensitively and professionally with residents, businesses, councillors, and partner agencies, often in challenging situations.
* Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, resolve conflicts, and seek sustainable solutions.
* A pragmatic, professional approach to investigations and enforcement work with ability to work independently across the borough as part of day-to-day duties.
