Locum GP – Long-Term Maternity Cover
Location: Parkgate Surgery, Ormskirk, West Lancashire
Duration: August 2026 – May 2027
We are a friendly, well-organised GP practice looking to appoint a self-employed Locum GP to provide long-term maternity cover. This is an excellent opportunity for a GP seeking stability, flexibility, and a supportive working environment. The role is suitable for GPs at any stage of their career, including newly qualified. You will be supported by an experienced and collaborative team who value safe, high-quality care and clinician wellbeing.
The Role
* Sessions: 5 sessions per week (days to be negotiated)
* Duration: Long-term locum maternity cover for 9 months
* Clinical Duties:
o Routine GP duties including telephone and face-to-face consultations for acute and routine appointments. All patients are triaged by a duty GP prior to booking, ensuring only appropriate cases are scheduled.
o 15-minute appointment slots, 12 per session
o Management of acute, chronic, and complex conditions in line with GMC and NICE guidance
o Review of test results, hospital correspondence, prescriptions, and clinical tasks
* Collaboration: Work with clinical and administrative teams to maintain safe, effective, and responsive care
* Record-Keeping: Accurately document all consultations using EMIS Web
* Additional Responsibilities: Support continuity of care, safeguarding, and high clinical standards
* Team Support: Supported by a strong multidisciplinary team, including nursing staff, pharmacists, and care coordinators
About Parkgate Surgery
Parkgate Surgery is a 5-partner GP practice based in Ormskirk, a market town and home to Edge Hill University. We operate across two sites, providing care for nearly 10,000 patients. Our population includes a high proportion of frail and elderly patients.
* Dedicated Care Co-ordinator as the first point of contact for all palliative care patients, ensuring well-coordinated, compassionate care

Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential):
* GMC registration and inclusion on the National GP Performers List
Experience (Essential):
* Valid medical indemnity and right to work in the UK
* Experience in primary care managing a range of acute and chronic conditions
* Excellent clinical, diagnostic, and communication skills
* Confident using IT systems and electronic health records
* Commitment to safe, evidence-based, and equitable patient care
* Experience using EMIS Web, Docman, and Accurx
* Experience working across multi-site practices (both sites within 1 mile of each other)
