Job Title: Finance Assistant - Apprentice Location: London or Manchester (Hybrid working) Salary: London £27K - £28k or Manchester £25k - £26k (DOE) Contract: Permanent (0.8 FTE in role, 0.2 FTE in study) Reports to: Director of Finance & Ops About Football Beyond Borders (FBB) Football Beyond Borders (FBB) is an education charity that uses the power of football to support disadvantaged young people in the UK who are disengaged from school. We are a team of 80 staff working across three regions - London, Manchester and Birmingham. The Role We are looking for a Finance Assistant to join our small but dynamic Finance Team. This role is ideal for someone looking to develop a career in finance, with support available for apprenticeship studies if required. You’ll work closely with the Director of Finance & Ops, the Finance Manager and the Operations Manager to support day-to-day financial operations, bookkeeping and reporting. You’ll gain hands-on experience with key finance systems, including Xero and Pleo (staff prepaid cards), while developing essential skills in charity finance. Key Responsibilities Process invoices, expenses, and payments Support bank and credit card (Pleo) reconciliations Assist with payroll processing Help prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports Support budgeting and forecasting processes Maintain accurate financial records and assist with audits Provide general administrative support to the Finance Team Who We’re Looking For Key Skill & Experience: Level 3 qualification or above (AAT/ACCA/CIMA) Strong numeracy and excellent attention to detail Basic understanding of bookkeeping principles Good organisational and time-management skills Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets Ability to work independently and collaboratively Interest in charity finance and professional development Experience with Xero or similar accounting software Knowledge of Pleo or similar expense-management systems Passion for FBB’s mission What We Offer Hybrid working (minimum 2 days in the office) Study support and dedicated study time (apprenticeship route available) Opportunity to grow within a small, supportive Finance team Workplace pension (NEST) 35 days of annual leave: 20 flexible days plus 15 days as part of the charity-wide shutdown A significant Learning & Development Budget for training opportunities, qualifications, and a wide network for external mentoring.
