Offer description

COME AND JOIN US. .. We are currently seeking a highly experienced, resourceful and strategic Head of IT Operations to join our IT Team and help bring our technology vision to life. This is a senior role for a dynamic leader who thrives in a dual-role setting. Approximately 60% of your time will be hands-on as a senior engineer, and 40% will be in leadership and team management. If you love getting deep into technical solutions while also mentoring engineers and driving a high-performance team, this role offers the best of both worlds. You’ll help execute an exciting roadmap of projects – from cloud migrations and cybersecurity enhancements to guest-facing technologies and back-office SaaS implementations – making a tangible impact on the future of Gleneagles’ IT landscape, which includes supporting our Estelle Brand properties in Oxfordshire and London. Bridging the gap between strategy and execution, while the overall technology roadmap is defined by our business needs and IT leadership, you're the person who will execute that roadmap with excellence. You’ll work closely with our Group Director of IT to understand the vision, and then roll up your sleeves to deliver projects that turn that vision into reality. On any given day, you might be architecting a new cloud infrastructure, troubleshooting a critical system issue, or coaching a team member on an automation best practice. You'll ensure that our IT operations are robust, secure, and scalable. You’ll implement modern solutions in cloud and cybersecurity, upgrade guest technologies (think smarter in-room tech, mobile apps, Wi-Fi & networks), and deploy new SaaS platforms for our teams behind the scenes. Equally important, you’ll prepare our people for these changes, guiding Service Desk engineers and Systems engineers (ITIL Level 1/2 and 2/3) to embrace new skills, systems, and processes. This role is technically engaging and leadership-forward; you’ll set high engineering standards through your own hands-on example, and you’ll foster a supportive environment where the team can grow in their careers. It’s not about defining the strategy, it’s about delivering it – and doing so by inspiring and elevating those around you. Join us as we fuse tradition with innovation – help lead our IT operations to new heights and ensure that Gleneagles continues to deliver extraordinary experiences powered by great technology. The on target earning potential for this role is £61,000 / per annum - comprising a base salary of £56,000, plus a qualified estimate of £5,000 in gratuities and service charge.* As a member of the Gleneagles team, you will also enjoy a fantastic range of perks, benefits and rewards. ABOUT GLENEAGLES One of the world’s most iconic luxury hotels and sporting estates, Gleneagles has been making memories for a century. Crowned ‘Employer of the Year’ at the 2024 Cateys and The Times and Sunday Times ‘Hotel of The Year 2024’, everything we do is about surpassing expectations and creating unrivalled adventures for our guests. With over a century of history, we pride ourselves on blending heritage with cutting-edge technology to deliver exceptional guest experiences. Our IT team plays a crucial role in this mission, from seamless guest services to efficient behind-the-scenes operations, and we're embarking on a significant technology transformation across the business. WORKING AT GLENEAGLES We’re devoted to making our people feel as valued as our guests. In this way, we strive to support the whole ‘you’ – not just the professional part but the personal part too. People join our team for all sorts of reasons. Some work here permanently to develop a career, some work seasonally, while others have a schedule to fit around their personal commitments. However long you plan to stay with us and whatever hours you’d prefer to work, we’re open to flexible working requests and offer hours, shift patterns and contract types to suit everyone. Location; Auchterarder, just off the A9. Gleneagles is also within easy reach of a number of Scottish towns and cities: Edinburgh City Centre (1hr), Glasgow or Dundee (50mins), Stirling and Perth (25mins). Here's a bit more detail on what we see you doing in this role: Dividing your time between engineering and management, you’ll spend roughly 60% of your time actively working on technical tasks – designing architectures, writing or reviewing setup/configurations, and solving complex problems – and 40% coaching, coordinating, and guiding the team Leading the technology delivery of key projects (cloud migrations, cybersecurity initiatives, guest-facing tech upgrades, back-office SaaS implementations), ensuring projects and deliverables are executed on time, within scope, and to high-quality standards. You’ll coordinate tasks, remove blockers, and dive into technical details when necessary to keep momentum Standardising our IT operations to ensure consistency, efficiency, and compliance, driving forward ITIL-based service delivery across the group. Implementing best practices and processes that streamline how we operate, ensuring every site and system adheres to the same high standards Establishing and maintaining effective monitoring, reporting, and KPI tracking for all IT systems and services. You'll proactively watch over our infrastructure (servers, networks, applications), quickly identify emerging issues, and ensure high availability and performance across the board Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of IT engineers (from ITIL Level 1/2 support technicians up to Level 2/3 engineers); fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement Conducting regular 1:1s, provide feedback and coaching, and create opportunities for your team to grow their skills and advance their careers Preparing our engineering team to onboard new technologies, systems, and processes, including identifying skill gaps and training needs, organising knowledge-sharing sessions or external training, updating documentation, and ensuring smooth adoption of changes in our IT environment Working closely with your colleagues and senior stakeholders across our properties to minimise disruption during IT changes and ensure our solutions meet business needs. You’ll translate technical details into “layperson’s” terms for non-IT colleagues and keep everyone updated on project progress Championing a security-first mindset in operations, partnering with our Cybersecurity Security Operations Centre to implement upgrades and policies that safeguard guest data and internal information; ensuring compliance with relevant standards and assist in security audits or risk assessments as needed Interacting with our guests, always warm, professional, helpful and doing everything you can to exceed their expectations; playing your part in making their stay with us luxurious in every way The kind of person we're looking for: You have a minimum 7 years’ experience in IT operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership or senior engineering role. You’ve managed production environments and led technical teams through significant projects or changes Your technical skills are deep and broad in areas such as cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure or similar), virtualisation, networks, servers, and cybersecurity. You’re comfortable jumping into the nitty-gritty of Windows/Non-Windows servers, databases, networking, and can quickly diagnose and fix technical issues Adept in delivering complex IT projects end-to-end, you know how to run projects using appropriate methodologies (Agile, ITIL change management, etc.), coordinate cross-functional efforts, and deliver results on schedule You have a solid understanding of ITIL frameworks and service delivery processes, and experience improving support workflows, incident/problem management, and service level management. (ITIL certification is a plus.) A strong leader, you have a real passion for developing talent and you're well versed in mentoring engineers at different levels, structuring teams, and fostering an inclusive, high-performance culture. You can balance being approachable and supportive with holding the team accountable to the highest standards Communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders is second nature to you. You can articulate a technical issue or project status to an executive just as well as you can co-author with an engineer on debugging a script. Clear documentation and presentation skills are also part of your toolkit. You excel at troubleshooting under pressure and can systematically get to the root of complex problems. Equally, you’re proactive – you anticipate future needs and improvements, whether it’s capacity planning for growth or shoring up a security gap, and take initiative to address these Highly motivated and possessing an immense sense of pride in your work; you're passionate about delivering the high standards for our guests in line with the Gleneagles brand You want to be part of a team that works hard, supports each other and above all has fun along the way What’s in it for you: Time to let your hair down 30 days holiday (including bank holidays) that increases with service Seasonal parties and local social events 50% discount on Food & Beverage, Country Pursuits, Spa and Hair Salon (Mon-Thurs) and the Golf Driving Range Golf Membership (with access to all 3 championship courses) for £50.00 per annum Treats in your pocket Flexi points into your Perkbox wallet to spend as you choose.
