We are looking for three Band 5 Mental Health Nurses to work on Colne Ward Riverside Centre. Colne ward is an 8 bedded male PICU unit.
We would like to recruit nurses who have strong leadership skills and be able to work independently but also above all to work collaboratively and effectively within the team. Ability to prioritise and make sound decisions sometimes under pressure. Good communication skills, able to work at times without direct supervision and problem solving skills. Have some skills and experienced working in a Mental Health setting.

Main duties of the job
Band 5 nurses work closely with the people who use our services, their families, friends and carers and play an important contribution in how people experience our services. Band 5 nurses are expected to be kind and responsive but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services we provide by:
* keeping the people who using our services as safe as possible through the use of sound clinical skills and effective risk assessments
* ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence based policies and procedures
* ensuring the people using our services have a good experience by respecting, empowering and working in partnership with people throughout the care planning process

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Patient Safety
Band 5 nurses contribute to the provision of safe and reliable services by:
Using their clinical judgement and risk assessments to keep the people using our services as safe as possible
* Safeguarding people by recognising and responding when an adult or child might be at risk from abuse but also recognising their own limits and asking for help and escalate concerns when necessary
* Escalating safety concerns and by doing so acting as effective advocates for those who use our services
* Being open and transparent about their own practice
* Supervising the work of other
* Reflecting on everyday practice to identify areas where improvements in safety or quality can be made
* Working with others to create a culture of continuous improvement
* Maintaining accurate, legible, comprehensive records
* Maintaining compliance with their mandatory training
The NMC plays an important role in safeguarding the public by regulating the work of nurses and all nurses, including Band 5 nurses, are expected to register with the NMC each year and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct.
Clinical Outcomes
Band 5 nurses contribute to the effectiveness of services by:
* Providing skilled, evidence based nursing care which adheres to agreed policies and procedures
* Working with patients and families in all stages of the care planning process including assessing risks and needs
* Acting as patient advocates in the multi-disciplinary team and overseeing the work of others to ensure that they are also responding to the needs of patients and providing clinically effective care
* Working as autonomous practitioners and taking responsibility for the care they give to patients but within their own limits of competency and confidence
* Contributing to creating and maintaining high performing teams by:
o communicating well with all members of the team
o understanding their role in the team and how they help the team achieve its’ objectives
o reflecting on their own practice regularly and encouraging the whole team to reflect on their practices in handovers and team meetings
o identifying how care could be improved

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* UK NMC Registered Mental Health Nurse
* Numeracy skills required for the safe administration of medicines
Desirable criteria
* Evidence of relevant Continuous Professional Development
Skills And Abilities
Essential criteria
* Able to communicate with the multi-disciplinary team, present cases, take note of actions, update others in the team and use handover effectively. Speaking face to face but also by telephone and writing letters and reports.
* Maintaining accurate, timely, concise and legible clinical records both electronic and handwritten which adhere to the CNWL policies
* Be able to de-escalate situation before it escalate to an aggressive incident.
* Able to maintain electronic patient records Use Microsoft Word for letter and report writing
* Safeguarding and advocacy
* To have an understanding of implementing person centred care
* To be able to participate in and provide management and clinical supervision
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Up to date knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 and amendments.
* Knowledge of the NMC code of conduct.
* A working knowledge of the Care Programme Approach Framework.
* Knowledge of new developments in nursing.
* A working knowledge of Risk assessment and management.
* Current developments in mental health care and nursing practice
* Ability to treat service users with respect & dignity at all times, adopting a culturally sensitive approach, which considers the needs of the whole person.
* Maintain patient confidentiality.
* Understanding of clinical governance and how this impacts on practice
Experience
Essential criteria
* You do not need previous experience as a registered nurse but you must be registered as a Mental Health Nurse
Desirable criteria
* Experience working in a PICU setting
