Jim Lawrence are a family run manufacturing business based in Hadleigh, Suffolk, specialising in lighting and home interiors.
As a product designer you will be responsible for the development and implementation of new and existing products to meet the customer and business needs.

Jim Lawrence has built a reputation for making high-quality lighting and home accessories, using traditional handcrafted techniques. The team has expanded greatly since the brand began at the kitchen table of Jim's farmhouse, but their ethos to nurture British craftmanship remains the same.
Key areas of responsibility:
· To design and implement robust new designs to suit both internal and customer requirements
· Specify, develop, prototype and test new products to supplement our existing ranges.
· Ensure that all designs conform to Industry guidelines, standards and legislation with necessary record kept.
· Create CAD models and 2D detailed drawings of new assemblies and component parts, reviewing and approving part drawings as applicable.
· Act at the focal point for the end-to-end process of design for manufacture and testing through to release of the product to customers, with support from appropriate team members and departments.
· Manage design projects to meet all applicable standards, customer expectations, cost and timeline requirements.
· Write and investigate modification requests that assist with production problems.
· Modify and update legacy drawings and designs as applicable
· Identifying and working with suppliers to obtain necessary design validation samples from 3rd party vendors
· Develop packaging and instructions to ensure they meet brand image and perform to meet business and customer expectations
Experience and Skills:
· Relevant engineering, product design or manufacturing qualification (BTEC, HNC, or degree)
· Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.
· Knowledge of designing for a varied range of manufacturing techniques, such as sheet metal, steel fabrication and machined components we well as assembly jigs and testing equipment if required.
· A good knowledge of SolidWorks is essential.
· Knowledge of drawings standards
· Exposure of BS/EN Standards
· Competent in MS Windows applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.)
· Flexible in approach, with an eye for detail and to have a desire to identify and implement improvements.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to manage and prioritise workload – Flexibility to work on different aspects of design at one time.
· Demonstrate an ability to solve problems across various disciplines including research into solutions where needed.
· Good communication skills
· Desire to progress within your role.
· Be a lateral-thinker and self-motivated.
