Plymouth City Council is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Highways Inspector (NRSWA) to join our Highways team. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting works carried out on the public highway, ensuring compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, Highways Act 1980, and associated codes of practice.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake inspections, monitoring and supervision of highway works ensuring statutory compliance
* Undertake ad-hoc inspections/site visits as directed by the Network Manager
* Ensure accurate and timely recording of inspection findings.
* Report unsafe or non-permitted works and initiate enforcement action where necessary
* Respond to complaints and service requests within agreed timeframes
Essential Skills & Attributes
* Excellent written and verbal communication.
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Commitment to high standards of customer care.
* Flexible and able to work under pressure and outside normal hours when required.
* Physically fit to undertake site inspections.
Required Qualifications & Knowledge
* Understanding of the Highways Act 1980 and New Roads and Street Works Act 1991
* NRSWA Streetworks Supervisor qualification or willingness to complete within first 12 months
* Full UK driving licence
* Strong communication skills with staff, contractors, utilities, Members, and the public
