The Civil Engineering team works on flood defences, flood alleviation, sustainable urban environments and wastewater treatment. We combine technical expertise and creativity to solve complex challenges and shape a built environment that supports communities and a low‑carbon future.
Opportunity
Arup Engineering teams thrive on diversity of work. Projects include flood risk and alleviation schemes, flooding and coastal risk management, river restoration, utilities coordination, water and wastewater treatment, infrastructure, master planning, and sustainable urban drainage. We often take a key role in large‑scale, multi‑disciplinary infrastructure projects from concept to detailed design and construction for both public and private sector clients.
Our Graduate Engineers work in roles such as river and coastal engineering, dams and reservoirs, sustainable urban drainage, green infrastructure, water or wastewater infrastructure and treatment projects.
Typical day‑to‑day tasks
* Carry out assessment, analysis and design; prepare design reports, drawings, calculations and specifications.
* Collaborate with Arup colleagues in other disciplines.
* Work with landscape architects, environmental and ecological specialists, geotechnical, geomorphologists and more.
* Meet clients and stakeholders, including site visits.
* Specify and analyse survey information and constraints for solution development.
* Develop and appraise options and support the production of engineering solutions and business cases.
* Undertake sustainability reviews, produce low/zero carbon strategies, embodied carbon calculations, carbon implementation plans, materials assessments, sustainability studies, reporting and design.
* Conduct feasibility studies, prepare engineering sketches and technical reports.
* Create digital solutions to manipulate, analyse and report on large and complex datasets.
* Use specialist analysis and design software such as Infodrainage, GIS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Bentley MicroStation, ProjectWise, Navisworks, Flood Modeller, TfL, InfoWorks.
Qualifications
* A degree in Civil Engineering or relevant Engineering degree, expecting a 2:1 or above.
* Looking to develop your career in engineering with a view to obtaining Professional Accreditation.
* Willingness to learn new skills and deliver high quality work for a range of clients.
* Good communicator who thrives on working independently or collaboratively in a team.
* Passion for creating a sustainable future.
* Interest in exploring how digital methods and automation can improve the work we deliver.
