Job summary

We are looking to recruit a dynamic, motivated Consultant Psychiatrist to join the team at Worcester City Neighbourhood Mental Health Team.

Worcestershire is a mixed rural and urban county of over 500 square miles and around million population. It covers the City of Worcester together with the towns of Kidderminster, Stourport, Bewdley, Tenbury Wells, Bromsgrove, Redditch, Droitwich, Evesham, Pershore, Malvern and Upton upon Severn.

Herefordshire & Worcestershire offer excellent living and working prospects. Nearby are the Wye Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; the Forest of Dean; the Malvern Hills; and the Brecon Beacons National Park; with easy access to the M5 and M50. Main duties of the job

The Worcester City Neighbourhood Mental Health Team (NMHT) underwent Community Mental Health Transformation in 2021, following the principles outlined in the NHS Community Mental Health Framework Our way of working aims to improve access, reduce fragmentation, and help people maintain wellbeing, stability, and meaningful lives within their own communities.

The team provides accessible, person-centred mental health care supported by local Primary Care Networks. Its purpose is to offer holistic, trauma-informed support for adults with a range of mental health needs, including severe, complex and enduring conditions. The team aims to meet the needs of both people with Severe Mental Illness (SMI) as well as those with trauma histories, personality difficulties, co-morbid substance use, long-term physical health conditions, and social adversity. To this end, the team works collaboratively with primary care, social care, voluntary sector partners and community services to deliver integrated, recovery-focused care. The aim is seamless care across organisational boundaries with a no wrong front door referral policy and a step-up and step-down flow of patient care between primary and secondary services.

Job responsibilities

The teams accepts referrals for working age adult patients aged 17 and over. Referrals are routinely received from:

Herefordshire and Worcestershires four Mental Health inpatient wards

14 GP practices based in Worcester

The South Home Treatment Team.

The South Early Intervention Service

Mental Health Practitioner caseloads are generally limited to 15-20 cases, allowing the team to deliver a range of psychosocial interventions, including Crisis Safety Planning, Emotional Management and Distress Tolerance Skills, Anxiety Management, Early Warning Signs / Relapse Prevention, Behavioural Activation and Sleep Hygiene.

The Team also offers a Managing Emotions Group to patients experiencing emotional dysregulation, often as a preliminary to further psychological work such as DBT.

The team is working to deliver access to NMHT services within 28 days of referral, and are currently meeting this target.

There is a twice weekly referrals meeting where new referrals are discussed together with cases of concern, and a monthly team meeting for education and team administration.

Psychological intervention is offered via three pathways. There is a dedicated Bipolar and Psychosis pathway, a trauma-specific Specialised Individual (SI) pathway and the more generalised Specialised Teams (ST) pathway. The Worcester City NMHT has 4.4 FTE funded posts for psychological provision.
