About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Renal Cancer Nurse Specialist to join our team at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, an international leader in cancer treatment.
Key responsibilities
* Manage a caseload of renal‑oncology cancer patients, acting as the key worker and providing holistic assessment, care planning, and ongoing support.
* Serve as key worker for renal cancer patients and collaborate with carers, professionals and multidisciplinary teams throughout the patient pathway.
* Provide assessment, advice, support and symptom/side‑effect management for patients, carers and other professionals.
* Lead the development and review of protocols and guidelines within the Renal Disease Group.
* Conduct and support clinical and organisational audit, promoting evidence‑based practice and outcomes improvement.
* Accept referrals, conduct holistic needs assessments, formulate personalised care plans and coordinate care across renal clinics, radiotherapy and chemotherapy services.
* Attend multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, contribute to patient discussions and keep accurate documentation in line with hospital policies.
* Support and counsel patients and carers through all stages of treatment, including advanced care planning and communication of treatment side‑effects.
* Provide specialist assessment and support on psycho‑sexual, fertility and menopause issues as required.
* Manage non‑medical prescribing for treatment toxicity and symptoms within competence.
* Act in accordance with the NMC Code and trust policies, ensuring safe and effective care delivery.
* Lead clinical developments, conduct research, audit and disseminate findings through local, regional and national conferences and publications.
* Line manage other nurses or support staff, provide supervision and mentorship, and promote professional development within the team.
* Attend CNS Forum, engage in patient and public involvement activities and contribute to service improvement.
Qualifications and experience
* Registered Nurse (RN) with at least 5 years of relevant experience in renal‑oncology, palliative care or equivalent oncology background.
* In‑depth knowledge of renal cancer and a strong commitment to developing further expertise.
* Advanced communication, advocacy and leadership skills.
* Ability to perform holistic needs assessments and deliver personalised care plans.
* Proficiency in non‑medical prescribing and management of treatment toxicity and symptoms.
* Demonstrated experience in audit, research and implementation of evidence‑based practice.
* Track record of clinical excellence, patient‑centred care and service improvement.
Band, hours and benefits
Band 7 working 30 hours (0.8 WTE). The post offers an opportunity to join an established Renal Cancer Nurse Specialist Team within a leading cancer centre.
