Job overview

To provide skilled nursing care through specialist nursing/generic assessment and the provision of complex treatment programmes for patients requiring Intravenous infusions in their own home, a clinic setting or off-site IC Beds

To provide and maintain a high quality IV Service in the Community providing clinical support, training, supervision and assessment of staff in the administration of Intravenous Therapy in the Community.

Main duties of the job

1. To develop and maintain specialist nursing skills
2. To contribute to the development of the IV service and patient pathways
3. As part of the IV team participate in the co-ordination of the single assessment process, planning, implementing, reviewing and evaluating complex programmes of care, reflecting the needs of individual patient and carer to enable a person to be maintained in an environment of their choice wherever possible
4. To liaise with agencies, statutory and non-statutory, involved in the patients care to ensure the provision of a seamless service.
5. Maintain accurate, legible and contemporaneous records in accordance with NMC guidelines and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Healthcare Records Policy
6. Be aware of current developments in infection control and monitor compliance
7. Ensure a safe working environment for all team members, carrying out risk assessments as needed
8. Undertake administration of intravenous medications
9. Inform the team leader of any relevant issues including staff members, resources, workload, training issues and clinical risk issues
10. Promote the principle of self-care and patient empowerment
11. Positively participate in and promote Clinical Governance, thus ensuring the highest quality of practice is maintained, within the service. Demonstrate the use of evidence based practice and participation in clinical audit
12. A willingness and ability to take charge when necessary and manage the caseload with in-direct supervision from a senior

Working for our organisation

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of a maximum of twelve months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.

Please note all existing NHS staff will only be considered on a secondment basis. This must first be agreed with your current line manager.

13. Registered Nurse
14. Current NMC registration
15. Evidence of ongoing professional development
16. To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
17. IV Therapy trained
18. Evidence of highly specialist professional knowledge acquired through a combination of short courses, postgraduate level study

Experience

Essential criteria

19. Relevant post registration experience at AFC Band 5 across a range of patient conditions
20. Experience of managing patients presenting clinical conditions autonomously
21. Experience of patient assessment, planning and treatments
22. Previous multi-disciplinary working

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria

23. Up to date knowledge of clinical best practice and where to cite best practice for presenting conditions
24. An understanding of the government initiatives driving admissions avoidance and reducing length of hospital stay
25. An awareness of cultural diversity needs
26. Organisational skills and the ability to prioritise a varied workload
27. Proficient at using SystmOne
28. Due to the requirement to undertake visits and transport non-portable equipment, the post holder is required to be either a car driver with a valid driving license or have access to an alternative means of independent transport
