Where you fit in
As our Network Operation Technician, you will deliver a first-time fix and same-day solution to customer and environmental problems and support the asset plan for network maintenance to reduce escapes. You will work as a field-based technician within a geographical team to improve customer service and sewer network performance, ensuring quality follow-on work is raised as needed. You will ensure proper site setup and that POWRA are completed before and during jobs to identify risks and undertake corrective/preventive actions to stay safe.
You will safely maintain the sewerage network to prevent sewage escapes, work with Yorkshire Water teams and contracted partners on site to resolve operational issues, and operate different vehicle types as required. You will investigate sewer asset problems, use IT systems to collate information, and provide data for evidence capture including photos, plans and reporting of any issues. You may maintain and install Customer Sewer Alarms and work with third-party providers as needed. Health and safety practices must be followed at all times. You will demonstrate financial awareness when making day-to-day decisions and provide technical support to ensure first-time resolution and cost-effective outcomes.
Responsibilities
* Deliver a first-time fix and same-day solution to customer and environmental problems.
* Maintain the sewerage network to prevent escapes and ensure compliance with standards.
* Work with internal teams and contracted partners to resolve operational issues on the sewer network.
* Operate different vehicle types as required and undertake investigations using internal IT systems to capture site information.
* Collect data and evidence (photos, plans, reports) and support investigations into sewer asset problems.
* Ensure health and safety practices are followed; manage site risks and perform preventive actions.
* Assist with installation/maintenance of Customer Sewer Alarms; coordinate with third-party providers when needed.
* Contribute to delivering against targets and provide first-line responses to customer contacts.
Qualifications & Skills
* Essential: practical mindset, enjoy outdoor work in all weather, hands-on approach.
* Customer service experience with face-to-face interactions.
* Ability to develop and maintain effective internal/external relationships and influence outcomes.
* Willingness to question unsafe practices and report them to management.
* Excellent communication skills to capture, evidence and feedback information; ability to influence decisions and meet challenging targets.
* Diagnostic and problem-solving abilities; basic IT skills to use internal systems (e.g., Toughbook).
* Willingness to work various rotas and participate in out-of-hours standby/shifts when trained.
* Medical criteria compliance, including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and spirometry tests; ability to work in confined spaces.
* Full valid driving licence (no more than 6 points).
* Desirable: understanding of sewerage systems; IT systems proficiency; experience in water/wastewater or utilities sectors.
