Vulnerable children in the UK need your help
Wherever you work in the Action for Children family, you'll be helping to change the lives of the most vulnerable children in the UK.
Last year, we helped more than 687,000 children and families across the UK. From direct work in communities to national campaigning, we are focused on making sure every child has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.
Why Action for Children?
Working here is more than a job. Everyone in the Action for Children family is passionate about protecting and supporting children. It's the sense of purpose that drives us every single day. Because we know that, when we work together, we can make a huge difference to bring lasting improvements to vulnerable children's lives.
About the service
Our Rossorry Grove Supported Accommodation is a purpose built 13 apartment supported accommodation service for young people who were homeless or at risk of becoming so. We work with young people aged 16 to 24 years, many of whom have been in care and / or struggle with significant mental health concerns and substance misuse issues.
Each young person will have their own self-contained flat and staff work closely with them to support their development of independent living skills and enabling them to move safely into the community.
How you'll help to create brighter futures
As a Housing Support Worker, you'll build and maintain professional working relationships with our young people and their families, by providing emotional, social and practical support. You'll work as part of a fantastic, committed team to provide a high quality and person-centred care to our young people and their families, ensuring the views and needs are heard and responded to by promoting communication and participation.
Working in residential care can be extremely rewarding. Our aim is to give every young person we work with the support and guidance to reach their potential by championing their aspirations for a positive future and continuing to promote their independence.
Key responsibilities include:
* Supporting young people to achieve their potential.
* Establishing relationships and links within the community to assist our young people and their families.
* Assisting the Residential Workers to support the young people.
* Contributing to care plans, support plans and risk assessments.
* Carrying out 1-2-1 work with the young people to help them with cooking, budgeting and looking for jobs, and attending appointments with them.
Let's talk about you
* Diploma Level 3 in Youth Work or a Social Care-related qualification, or equivalent experience.
* Experience of working with vulnerable young people aged 16 - 21 in a formal setting.
* Registration with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC) or willingness to register.
