Overview
We are looking for a Deputy Team Leader to join our Development Management team on a 1-year fixed term to cover a substantive post during maternity leave, with the potential for extension depending on service needs. The role supports flexible working hours and may require occasional meetings and site visits outside normal office hours to meet service requirements.
Responsibilities
* Lead on pivotal planning applications, managing a caseload that includes large-scale or high-profile schemes and negotiating to secure strategic benefits for Camden.
* Provide line management to a number of planners in the team, supporting Area Team Managers.
* Develop and maintain strong relationships across the council and with external partners, acting as the go-to expert on planning advice, processes, legislation, and Camden's policies to enable confident decision-making.
* Contribute to a responsive, high-performing Development Management Service that meets community needs.
About You
* Enthusiastic, organised and personable with strong communication and negotiation skills.
* Understanding of how local government works in a diverse urban setting and awareness of how politics affects local development.
* Ability to find smart solutions to complex problems and build good relationships within and outside the council.
* Strong project management, stakeholder engagement, and leadership/mentoring capabilities.
* Good understanding of the London planning system; up-to-date with policy and planning law changes. A recognised RTPI qualification is essential; local authority experience is advantageous.
