Spindogs is looking to recruit a Head of Commercial this Spring, a role that will lead all sales, account, and marketing-related functions within the business, and be responsible for both client acquisition and retention in line with our client and commercial goals.
Spindogs has built a reputation over more than two decades for delivering complex digital solutions and transformation projects for organisations across sectors, including housing, automotive, public sector and financial services. Many of our clients have worked with us for more than ten years, and the Head of Commercial will play an important role in ensuring those relationships continue to develop and create meaningful value for our clients.
This role will sit within the Spindogs leadership team, and will be responsible for leading the team that drives our commercial success, reporting to the MD and working closely with the wider leadership team to deliver the agency’s commercial priorities. A key responsibility will be ensuring the team’s efforts remain aligned and focused on delivering sustainable growth for the agency.
This is a leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a collaborative environment and is motivated by building strong relationships, developing high-performing teams, and identifying opportunities where Spindogs can make a genuine difference for its clients.
As well as motivating your team and developing a strong understanding of our clients, their behaviours and wider market trends, you will support colleagues in shaping strong commercial proposals and responding to new opportunities, including bids and tenders. You will also provide guidance where needed on contract discussions and help ensure our work aligns with relevant regulatory and compliance standards, which are increasingly important within the sectors we operate in.
We are looking for someone who combines strong commercial awareness with a genuine interest in building long‑term relationships with clients and colleagues.
Core responsibilities:
Client side
* Define and deliver the client retention and commercial development strategy
* Ensure your direct reports are implementing the client engagement strategy
* Manage all escalated communications with key clients
* Support with all contract negotiations as required
Management
* Coach your team to be excellent solution‑focused account managers, who understand their clients’ businesses in a way that enables them to suggest digital roadmaps that will have a real impact on their business
* Advocate and champion your team internally, ensuring you have authority and influence amongst the wider team in order to do so effectively
* There are multiple roles within this team, across several disciplines. The successful candidate needs to be adept at managing multiple strategies and timelines concurrently, giving each person the time they need to deliver on their aspect of the overarching strategy
* Provide strategic direction to the marketing team to ensure activity contributes meaningfully to the agency’s pipeline and reputation.
Leadership
* Have responsibility for the business hitting the relevant salestargets each month, reporting on performance, trends, adjustments and alignment to OKR’s on a regular basis
* Collaborate with your peers to ensure the business objectives are being met, in line with our strategy and values
You will likely bring:
* Significant experiencein a senior commercial, client services or growth focused role within a digital, technology or professional services environment
* Experience leading or developing teams responsible for account management, businessdevelopment and/or marketing
* Strong commercial awareness and the ability toidentifyopportunities that align with organisational strengths
* Confidence in developing relationships with senior stakeholders and supporting complex client conversations
* Experience contributing to proposals,tendersor pitches for new business opportunities
* A good understanding of digital platforms, digitaltransformationor digital marketing services
* A collaborative leadership style that encourages teams to share ideas and work together effectively
* Agency experience would be beneficial, although we recognise that strong candidates may bring relevant experience from other sectors.
Location & working pattern
This role is based in Cardiff with a hybrid working arrangement. You’ll be expected to be within a commutable distance of the office and spend at least two days per week onsite, working closely with both you and the wider team. We would consider a home working contract if you can commit to at least 2 days a week in the office at your own expense.
