Overview
Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) support children, young people and their families linked to identified school settings. Each MHST works with schools and other agencies to cover populations of up to 7,000 children and young people. The service aims to increase early access and preventative provision, and promotes a Whole School Approach (WSA) to emotional wellbeing and mental health, including curriculum content to teach pupils about mental health in the classroom.

Position details
Employer: NELFT NHS Foundation Trust (North East London Foundation Trust). Location: Maidstone Studios, Vinters Business Park, New Cut Road, Maidstone ME14 5NZ. Band 5, permanent, flexible working options available (full-time/part-time/Job share/Compressed hours).
Job responsibilities
* Provide Assessment and Treatment of Children and Young People under the MHST core functions: Targeted Intervention, Whole School Approach, and Consultation and Liaison.
* Work as part of a team with a set number of schools to deliver the core components of the service.
* Participate in local and county-wide meetings and supervision forums.
Qualifications and experience
Essential
* Successful completion of Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) / Children's Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) course.
* Experience of delivering specific therapeutic interventions to children, young people, or their families (e.g., CBT, solution-focused brief therapy).
* Ability to conduct mental health and risk assessments and communicate with children, young people and parents.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Knowledge of education systems within the United Kingdom and safeguarding issues.
Desirable
* Working towards/holding professional registration with BABCP or BPS as a low intensity practitioner.
* Experience of working within educational settings.
* Knowledge of capacity and consent issues including Gillick competence.
Other requirements
* Travel across a large geographical area in a timely manner.
* Holds a valid driving licence and has access to a vehicle (desirable).
* UK registration with relevant professional bodies; Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) submission required.
Induction, probation and working arrangements
NELFT places emphasis on a welcoming induction for new starters. Induction begins on the first Monday of each month and lasts up to two weeks, including mandatory training, systems training and introductions to the executive team and senior managers. Induction occurs at the Trust head office in Rainham, Essex.
This post is subject to a probationary period. Flexible working arrangements will be considered (part-time 30 hours plus on a case-by-case basis).
Salary and benefits
Pay scheme: Agenda for Change. Band 5. Salary: £31,049 to £37,796 per annum. Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Full-time, Part-time, Job share, Flexible working, and/or Compressed hours.
