Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and compassionate nurse to join the Urology Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist team at University Hospital Southampton, supporting the prostate and penile cancer services as a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist.
This maternity cover role offers the opportunity to work within a well-established multidisciplinary team delivering specialist care to patients diagnosed with urological cancers.
In this role you will support patients across the cancer pathway, providing personalised care, information and support from diagnosis through treatment and follow-up. You will work closely with consultants, the wider CNS team and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive coordinated, high quality care throughout their treatment journey.
You will be joining a supportive and experienced team and will have the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge in urological cancer nursing while playing an important role in supporting patients and their families during what can often be a challenging time in their care.

Responsibilities
* Provide specialist nursing support and act as a key worker for patients within the urology cancer service, supporting men with prostate and penile cancer through their treatment and follow-up pathways.
* Work alongside the Prostate Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists, supporting the prostate cancer service through patient assessment, follow-up support, and coordination of care across the pathway.
* Contribute to nurse-led clinics and follow-up services, supporting patient assessment, symptom management and ongoing surveillance in line with agreed care pathways.
* Support the coordination of the penile cancer pathway, including tracking investigations, supporting MDT discussions and communicating outcomes to patients.
* Provide support to patients undergoing treatment for penile cancer, including post-operative follow-up, wound care and ongoing recovery support where required.
* Work closely with consultants, the wider CNS team and the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive coordinated, high quality care.
* Liaise with colleagues across the regional network and specialist centres to support patients requiring specialist penile cancer treatment.
What experience and skills are needed
* You will be a registered nurse with experience in urology, cancer care or a related clinical area.
* You will have strong communication skills and be confident supporting patients through complex or sensitive health issues.
* You will be able to work independently while working closely with the wider CNS and multidisciplinary team.
* You will be motivated to develop specialist knowledge and skills in urological cancer nursing.
Qualifications, knowledge and experience
* Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
* Degree qualification or equivalent 120 credits at L6
* Post registration qualification within area of speciality or equivalent experience.
* Completion of all Band 5 (preceptorship) competencies
* Provide evidence of supporting/ managing a range of learners in practice
* Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
* Extensive post registration experience within specialist area.
* Knowledge of current issues within the acute health service.
* Understanding of personal accountability.
* Confident of own knowledge base, aware of learning needs and seeks guidance when appropriate.
* Able to critically review and communicate clinical information.
* Registered on MSc Pathway - completion of HTPA Competencies
* Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners / supporting challenges as needed
* Counselling qualification
* Palliative care course
* IT training
* Multidisciplinary team working.
* Interest in nurse -led care.
* Organisational/strategic awareness.
* Clear about professional accountability and autonomous practice components of role.
