Main duties of the job
This is an exciting new role within the Colorectal Team, giving the successful candidate the opportunity to develop the triage service with support from the wider team.
The post holder will be responsible for the assessment and triage of colorectal referrals, identifying patients suitable for the STT pathway in line with agreed protocols and clinical guidelines. The Triage Nurse will review and act upon investigation results within their scope of practice, escalating any concerns or results to senior colleagues which fall outside of their scope of practice, while also serving as the main point of contact for patients navigating the pathway.
They will conduct initial telephone and face-to-face assessments, gathering clinical history and evaluating symptoms to determine appropriate clinical management. Request and organise clinical investigations within scope of practice and provide information, advice, and reassurance to patients. Ensuring they understand their diagnostic pathway and what to expect from investigations and treatments.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The Triage Nurse will play a key role in managing colorectal referrals within secondary care, supporting the delivery of the Straight to Test (STT) pathway. The post holder will be responsible for assessing and triaging referrals, ensuring patients are appropriately managed and directed to the most suitable pathway. The role will focus on optimizing patient flow, reducing unnecessary delays, and enhancing the quality of care.
The post holder will work within the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to support the timely assessment and management of patients referred with suspected colorectal conditions, ensuring that national and local pathway targets are met.
