The Role
As a Principal Technician, you will play a pivotal role in the design and delivery of civil engineering projects. You will produce accurate, fit-for-purpose drawings, manage CAD standards, and support engineers in developing design solutions. This is a hands-on role within a collaborative team, giving you the chance to contribute to both project delivery and team knowledge sharing.
Key Responsibilities
 1. Produce high-quality technical design drawings for drainage, highways, and external works
 2. Draft construction details and bespoke designs based on sketches or engineer input
 3. Collate and maintain construction detail databases and large-scale site drawings
 4. Undertake quality checks on drawings produced by the team
 5. Support civil engineers with technical drawing production
 6. Ensure project and client-specific CAD standards are consistently applied
 7. Maintain engineering keys, legend templates, and combined site plans
 8. Collaborate with local authorities, developers, and architects on project designs
 9. Share knowledge with regional offices and other departments to support team development
About You
 10. 6+ years’ experience in a civil engineering technician role using AutoCAD (essential) and Site3D (preferred)
 11. Experience on residential, commercial, or retirement/care schemes, including highways (S278/S38) and drainage
 12. Exposure to large-scale, multi-phase developments preferred
 13. Skilled in 3D design software such as Site3D, Civil 3D, or PDS
 14. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
 15. Strong time management and prioritisation skills
 16. Collaborative approach and ability to work effectively within a civil engineering team
 17. High attention to detail and proactive, accountable work ethic
