Job Summary

At NHS Blood & Transplant we help people to do something extraordinary - donate blood, organs, tissues, or stem cells to save and enhance lives. We play a unique and special role in the NHS, and it takes all types of people to deliver the kind of service that saves and improves lives.

As a Band 7 Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse, you will be joining one of our front-line teams covering Wolverhampton and surrounding areas including South Staffordshire and the Black Country. Your workplace will vary as you travel throughout the region for mobile sessions.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe collection of blood and blood products, leading a team of Donor Carers, Donor Care Supervisors, and Band 6 Nurses. You will oversee collection sessions and ensure excellent care for donors.

No prior experience as a session nurse is required; you will receive extensive induction, training, and ongoing development to support your leadership and management skills.


Main duties of the job

* Foster a positive working environment and provide ongoing training and support.
* Use clinical expertise to assess donor health and safety criteria.
* Ensure team delivers exceptional care while making critical safety decisions.
* Take clinical accountability and operational responsibility for blood collection.
* Promote core values and behaviors to deliver excellent donation experiences.
* Oversee team competency and skills development.
* Motivate staff for continuous improvement and development.
* Collaborate with stakeholders for planning and resource management.

Hours are variable, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, but no night shifts. Travel is required across the region.

Experience and Knowledge

* Experience with Microsoft Office and iOS for documents, presentations, and communication.
* Leadership and management experience in a clinical setting.
* Experience in implementing improvements and change management.
* Knowledge of clinical audit, research, and standards of care.
* Experience supporting professional development of colleagues.
* Experience working towards performance objectives and targets.
* Awareness of patient safety initiatives and risk management.


Qualifications and Training

* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (Adult).
* Full UK driving license with no more than 6 points.
* Evidence of continuous professional development.
