The Annex is a standout restaurant and bar in Inverness, Nova Scotia; a seaside town on the western side of Cape Breton Island. In 2025, the Annex was named "Best Restaurant, Cape Breton" by the Restaurant Association of Nova Scotia and was a runner-up in its "Best Atmosphere" category.
The Annex seeks to fill the role of General Manager, a key member of its leadership team. This role will work closely with the Owner-Operator and the Head Chef to implement standards that will enable the business to achieve its service, financial, and performance goals. The right candidate will be operations-focused and highly skilled at ensuring smooth dining room operations and profitability. They must have a passion for knowledgeable, polished service and be ready to implement standards among staff. A curiosity and appreciation for food and beverage creation are also essential, with food and drink knowledge being an asset and a willingness to learn a must.
Set in an unbeatable location overlooking Cabot Links golf course, Inverness Harbour, and the Northumberland Strait, The Annex offers stunning sunset views. Our focus on warm, knowledgeable service, delicious scratch-made food, and a beautiful dining environment creates an unforgettable experience, aiming to be a destination dining spot throughout the Maritimes.
We take pride in showcasing Cape Breton's talent and beauty through our food, drink, music, and extended opportunities. Our culinary team’s contemporary Maritime cuisine highlights local products in approachable ways, emphasizing elevated comfort food with fresh seafood and seasonal produce, made possible through strong relationships with local fishers, farmers, and purveyors.
The restaurant seats 40 guests at tables and 11 at the social bar. A spacious deck extends serve capacity to up to 75 guests during summer, and our fully-licensed lawn space offers a charming setting for drinks or larger events. The town experiences significant seasonal traffic, with the restaurant averaging 125 covers per night during peak season.
Inverness, Nova Scotia, a rural town of about 1,300 residents, is a vibrant summer destination with beaches, hiking trails, a rich music culture, and world-ranked golf courses. In winter, the area quiets down, allowing for community activities and outdoor pursuits, including snowmobiling on extensive trails. It’s an ideal location for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.
Job Responsibilities
* Supervise daily operations to ensure a seamless workflow in all areas of the establishment.
* Manage staff schedules, training, and performance evaluations to foster a productive work environment.
* Lead, mentor, and manage the front-of-house (FOH) team.
* Implement and refine training programs and service standards.
* Develop and implement operational standards in collaboration with the Owner-Operator and Head Chef.
* Schedule FOH staff according to predicted business levels.
* Maintain and track FOH inventory, particularly alcohol.

Salary: $55,000 to $65,000 per year
