Due to the continued growth and expansion of our Energy business, we are seeking to strengthen our Project Management Office (PMO) capability and recruit an Apprentice Project Manager to support the delivery of AECOM’s Great Grid Programme (GGP). This role is intended to start in July 2026 and involves enrolling with a training provider with commencement of external training in September 2026.
This role will sit within the Energy business unit, reporting to the GGP PMO Lead, and will support programme governance, coordination and delivery across AECOM’s Great Grid Programme.
Responsibilities
* Supporting programme-wide coordination across multiple project workstreams to ensure successful delivery.
* Assisting with project planning, scheduling, reporting and performance tracking.
* Supporting risk, issue and change management processes.
* Working with project teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment with programme controls and governance requirements.
* Contributing to the development and continuous improvement of PMO processes, tools and reporting.
Project Support Tasks
* Supporting project directors, managers and wider project teams in the delivery of projects, including environmental impact assessments.
* Supporting governance and financial control of projects.
* Supporting project change control.
* Stakeholder and communications management.
* Estimating, planning and scheduling.
* Procurement and contract management.
* Quality management.
* Attendance at and participation in project team meetings, client meetings and internal meetings, including training sessions.
* Prioritising tasks and meeting commitments on an ongoing basis and taking ownership and responsibility for the completion and quality of work.
* Ensuring health and safety issues are embedded in project delivery from the outset.

* Achievement of a BSc (Hons) Professional Practice in Project Management upon completion of the degree apprenticeship.
Essential Qualifications
* Minimum of 120 UCAS points (or equivalent) – at least three A levels at Grades A*-C including Mathematics and Physical Science or a Level 3 apprenticeship in a similar field.
* Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or Scottish Standard Grade or Junior Certificate in Ireland) at grade C/4 or above, including Mathematics & English.
* Minimum of Level 2 qualification in English Language and Maths Grade 4/C or above.
* Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in the environmental sector.
* Commitment to continued education and improvement through on‑the‑job learning and training opportunities.
* Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiastic.
* Ability to demonstrate attention to detail.
* Methodical thinking to design, plan and organise parts of projects.
* Excellent English communication skills for presentation in speech, drawings and reports.
* Capability to carry out occasional remote working.
Desirable but Not Essential
* Full UK Driving Licence.
