About the role
As a Nurse or Midwife Practitioner you will provide high quality clinical care to our clients across a range of BPAS reproductive healthcare services including termination of pregnancy, STI testing & treatment, contraception & vasectomy. You're involved in all stages of the client pathway from consultation through to treatment and work in all areas of the unit including theatre & recovery. This role involves providing treatment & clinical information to clients in person and over the phone.
About You
You are a Registered Adult Nurse Level 1 or Midwife (practising) with active NMC registration and PIN, at least 12 months clinical practice experience and a keen interest in sexual health & reproductive healthcare. Clinical knowledge & experience of safeguarding and Fraser/Gillick competencies are essential. Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills and the ability to care for clients in a compassionate & empathetic way are required.
Main duties of the job
* Work in accordance with NMC guidelines for Professional Practice and relevant regulatory frameworks such as the Abortion Act 1967, Health & Social Care Act, and BPAS clinical policies.
* Ensure the client understands her options and that any choice of termination meets the grounds of the Abortion Act.
* Provide information on STI testing, undertake tests, give results, and discuss and confirm the client’s future choice of contraception.
* Check and implement any procedures indicated in client case notes, including administering medication for medical abortion procedures or cervical preparation.
* Carry out post-treatment check-ups by assessing the physical condition of the client and discussing any concerns.
* Complete relevant paperwork and, if post-treatment problems arise, make arrangements with the clinic or refer to an NHS agency if necessary.
* Support clients undergoing surgical treatments, which may include general anaesthetic, conscious sedation or local anaesthetic.
Key qualifications
* Registered Adult Nurse Level 1 or Registered Midwife (practising)
* Active NMC registration and valid PIN
* Ultrasound scanning skills
Experience
* Minimum 12 months clinical practice experience
* Experience in general nursing or midwifery
* Experience completing client documentation and working within guidelines, policies and procedures
* Knowledge of Health & Safety, COSHH requirements and infection control
* Gynaecological nursing experience or relevant speciality (sexual health, contraception)

* Sound administrative competence with attention to detail
* Venepuncture and cannulation skills
* Comfortable using IT and Microsoft packages including Outlook, Word and Teams

Working hours
28.5 hours per week over Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
Shift Pattern:
Monday 08:30‑17:00
Tuesday 08:30‑16:00
Friday 08:30‑14:30
Salary
£39,959 – £46,656 per annum, pro rata for part‑time hours, depending on skills and experience.
