We have recently been instructed by a leading European activist hedge fund, who are looking to expand their investment team with the addition of an Equity Analyst to cover a universe of European Financials – predominantly banks and insurers.
This is a rare opportunity to work within a highly collaborative, lean and entrepreneurial platform, contributing directly to concentrated, high-conviction positions where fundamental research and shareholder engagement drive value creation.
The successful candidate will take ownership of research within the banks and insurance space, working closely with the Portfolio Manager to identify undervalued companies, build investment theses, and support engagement strategies with management and boards.
Responsibilities
* Conduct deep fundamental research on banks, insurers, and re/insurers.
* Build and maintain detailed company valuation models to assess intrinsic value and upside potential.
* Maintain coverage of a core list of 20–30 insurers and banks, while selectively expanding coverage across European and global financials names.
* Generate high-conviction long and short ideas that can scale into core positions within the fund's concentrated portfolio.
* Support the Portfolio Manager in the development of activist strategies, including engagement with management teams, boards, and other stakeholders.
* Monitor portfolio positions, update investment cases, and prepare materials for the investment committee and external communications where required.
* Track industry trends, macroeconomic factors, and regulatory changes impacting the financials sector across Europe and beyond.
Role Requirements
* 2–5 years' equity research experience, either at a bank, asset manager, or a hedge fund.
* You

have active coverage of
European
financial institutions (banks

* Proven ability to develop independent investment theses, supported by rigorous analysis and conviction.
* Outstanding financial modelling and valuation skills, particularly applied to FIG businesses.
* Collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset, with the drive to thrive in a concentrated activist environment.
* European language skills are an advantage but not strictly required.
