The current digital era is an exciting time to work in archives. National Records of Scotland (NRS) is accepting increasing amounts of archival digital records, which are bringing new challenges and opportunities on everything from collections management to user needs. NRS needs to grow its digital archiving capabilities to ensure we can continue to respond to this change and preserve the record of modern Scotland. This post will play a key role in this mission. Based in the Digital Records Unit, you will work with internal and external stakeholders to enable the successful transfer, preservation, and availability of digital records in the national archive. You will also have a unique opportunity to support a current strategic project, which is aiming to expand our digital archiving function.. Responsibilities Working closely with your fellow Digital Archivist, you will be responsible for delivering and continuously improving day-to-day operations of our Digital Preservation Service. Duties will include: Deliver digital preservation workflows: Pre-ingest and ingest tasks e.g. file format characterisation, metadata extraction, completeness checking monitor collection data to track and maintain records’ authenticity find and retrieve records for access upkeep procedural reporting and documentation Advise stakeholders on the selection, review, and transfer of digital records to NRS, providing technical guidance as appropriate. Analyse digital preservation good practice, to develop recommendations on policies, processes and workflows. This may involve emerging methods such as automation and scripting. Support the NRS Digital Archiving Project, which is working to increase digital archiving competency and capacity at NRS. Responsibilities Qualifications A professional qualification recognised by the Archives & Records Association.
