Legal CashierReports To: Head of FinanceLocation: Newport, South WalesPlease note: An enhanced DBS check will be required in accordance with industry and regulatory standards.A brand new role has arisen within a leading law firm for a Legal Cashier / Legal Accounts Assistant. This is a full time permanent role in Newport.To ensure full compliance with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Accounts Rules, while helping safeguard the business and its clients from money laundering, fraud, and financial mismanagement.Key ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be expected to undertake the following duties:Input and authorisation of CHAPS/BACS paymentsHandling internal and external finance queriesLegal Aid processing and reconciliationClient-to-office and office-to-client transfersDaily and monthly cash reconciliationsProviding cash for Court of Protection clientsCompleting monthly bank reconciliationsSubmitting VAT returns for service companiesProcessing Stamp Duty Land Tax paymentsRecording card payments and processing refundsManaging direct debits and standing ordersHandling staff expense claimsMonth-end financial preparationIdentifying and implementing process improvementsEnsuring compliance with SARs, VAT, and anti-money laundering regulationsOther finance-related administrative duties as requiredPersonal ResponsibilitiesEssential:Strong administrative and organisational skillsProven accounting backgroundEffective communication across teams and stakeholdersProficient in Microsoft ExcelAbility to prioritise workload, manage deadlines, and work independently or as part of a teamWillingness to undertake mandatory or role-specific trainingAdaptability in using financial and legal software systemsClient-focused with a commitment to high service standardsEnsures tasks outside of role scope are approved before undertakingWillingness to perform additional duties as reasonably required by managementPerson SpecificationKnowledge, Training & QualificationsEssential:Solid understanding of the Solicitors Accounts RulesHigh proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)Experienced user of Excel functions and tools5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English at Grade C or aboveStrong literacy, numeracy, and word processing capabilitiesFamiliarity with ledgers, disbursements, and account proceduresExperienceEssential:Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a legal accounting or finance environmentComfortable using legal practice management systems or financial platformsConfident when dealing with clients over the phone or in personExperienced in using computerised accounting or MIS systemsFamiliarity with handling cash and chequesDesirable:Experience dealing with a broad client base, including corporate entities and high-net-worth individualsContact Rachel Phillips, Associate Director, in confidence on 02920 388100 / Rachel@tsrlegal.co.uk or apply below:
