This is a senior leadership role suited to an accomplished Engineering Manager or Director with a proven record of delivering complex capital projects, leading large multi-disciplinary teams, and driving operational excellence across regulated, high-performance manufacturing environments. The successful candidate will take full ownership of engineering strategy, capital investment, maintenance, and asset performance across multiple sites, playing a pivotal role in shaping the long-term success and growth of the business. The Role As Head of Engineering, you will provide strategic and technical leadership to ensure world-class standards in safety, reliability, and compliance across all facilities. You'll lead a highly capable team of engineers and maintenance professionals, overseeing everything from capital project delivery and asset management to regulatory compliance and sustainability initiatives. You'll work closely with the senior leadership team to deliver the company's long-term growth and investment strategy while maintaining best-in-class operational performance. Key Responsibilities Define and deliver the strategic engineering roadmap, aligning with corporate objectives and operational targets. Lead a large, multi-site engineering team covering capital projects, maintenance, and asset optimisation. Oversee delivery of major CAPEX projects, including facility upgrades, equipment installations, and new manufacturing capability. Ensure full compliance with GMP, MHRA, FDA, and environmental standards. Drive continuous improvement and Lean/Operational Excellence initiatives across engineering functions. Manage multi-million-pound budgets, ensuring value for money and long-term asset sustainability. Champion safety culture and regulatory excellence throughout all operations. Build, mentor, and develop high-performing teams, fostering a culture of ownership and innovation. Lead energy efficiency and sustainability projects, supporting the company's environmental commitments. About You Degree-qualified in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent). Extensive experience in engineering leadership within a regulated manufacturing environment (pharma, biotech, or similar). Proven success in capital project management, engineering strategy, and asset lifecycle management. Strong technical understanding of HVAC, WFI, SCADA, CMMS, and cleanroom systems. Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills. Financial acumen and experience managing large-scale budgets. Knowledge of GMP and validation processes is essential. Desirable: Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional status. Certified in Lean Six Sigma or continuous improvement methodologies. Background in sustainable engineering or energy management.
