Bank - Health Care Assistant (Ultrasound)

VernovaHealthcare Ultrasound Service is a busy and dynamic department providing high-quality, patient-centered, non-obstetric ultrasound care. We are looking for enthusiastic and reliable bank staff to join our friendly and supportive team, assisting sonographers across multiple sites.


Main duties of the job

* 1. Patient Care Assistance
o Verify patient identification against referrals
o Prepare patients for their examinations
o Support sonographers during and between scans, including acting as a chaperone
o Assist with maintaining appointment schedules
* 2. Health, Safety and Compliance
o Maintain a clean and safe scanning environment
o Adhere to infection prevention and control practices
o Follow established procedures, protocols, and guidelines
* 3. Administrative and Clerical Tasks
o Use the Computerised Radiology Information System (CRIS) for patient documentation
o Manage and upload images to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)

Job responsibilities

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE BANK Healthcare Assistant Non Obstetric Ultrasound

LOCATION Based from Waters Green Medical Centre in Macclesfield, although the role requires frequent travel to a number of Hospital and Community Clinics within Eastern Cheshire.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST

To assist the Sonographers in providing a high quality, patient-centred non-obstetric ultrasound service at a number of sites within Eastern Cheshire.

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

* Major working relationships with all sonographers involved in the service
* Liaison with other clinical professionals, support staff, patients, carers, and their relatives
* Liaison with other agencies, especially East Cheshire NHS Trust

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* 1. Assist with Patient Care whilst Supporting the Sonographer
o Check patient identification against referral and appointment system in order to support the sonographer in undertaking the requested examination(s)
o Receive patients into the scanning room and prepare them for the examination
o Have a clear understanding of all examinations carried out in the service and the preparation required prior to the examination
o Provide support and information to patients, carers and relatives where appropriate
o Signpost / guide patients to the toilet as required
o Support the sonographer whilst they are undertaking examinations and chaperone during examinations, especially intimate examinations.
o Use equipment and accessories appropriately
o Support keeping patient appointments on time to aid in the smooth running of the service and maintaining high standards of patient experience.
* 2. Communicate effectively and ensure smooth running of the service
o Ensure effective communication with other staff, patients and members of the public maintaining patient confidentiality at all times
o Ensure that enquiries are dealt with promptly and efficiently
o Attend staff meetings and contribute to the smooth running of the service
o Be prepared to work flexible hours according to the needs of the service
o Participate in audit and quality control programmes if required
* 3. Maintain a safe working environment
o Maintain a safe and clean working environment within the scanning room
o Adhere to infection prevention and control good practice
o Adhere to all standard procedures, protocols and guidelines
o Understand the policies and procedures of VernovaHealthcare CIC
o Report any incidents or accidents and broken equipment to line manager
* 4. Perform Clerical Duties
o Use the Computerised Radiology Information System (CRIS) for the purposes of patient identification and recording attendance
o Upload images from the mobile scanner to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) in accordance with defined procedures.
o Assist with checking and ordering of consumables required by the service.
* 5. Other Duties
o Provide cover for other Ultrasound Healthcare Assistants as required
o Undergo other duties as requested, appropriate to the rate of pay for the post

* Responsible Manager - Clinical Services Nurse Supervisor

* Maintain a broad understanding of the work of VernovaHealthcare CIC as a whole, and actively contribute ideas for the improvement of service provision.
* Ensure own actions contribute to the maintenance of quality service provision.

Experience

* Experience in the provision of clinical support services to patients.

* Experience of working as an ultrasound healthcare assistant.


Qualifications

* Good standard of general education (Including GCSE in Maths and English)
* NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Healthcare Related Subject
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Healthcare Related Subject
