Specialist Occupational Therapist Critical Care

An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to join the Critical Care Team at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, providing Occupational Therapy input covering maternity leave. This will involve working as part of a therapy MDT, working collaboratively alongside Consultants, nursing staff and other members of Critical care staff.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide a high standard of Occupational Therapy to patients admitted via Critical Care. 2. To provide Specialist assessment, treatment and goal setting of patients admitted via Critical Care. Some patients may have complex and or chronic presentations. To determine clinical diagnosis and Occupational Therapy treatment indicated. 3. To maintain records as an autonomous practitioner. 4. To develop highly specialist skills under the guidance of the senior staff. 5. To attend clinical level discussions/meetings related to your area of work as delegated by the Clinical team Lead. 6. To be based at Royal Cornwall Hospital - Treliske as a static post on Critical Care.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent
* Evidence of recent learning and education in subjects relevant to area of practice
* member of Royal College of Occupational Therapists
* Member of the appropriate clinical interest groups
Experience
* Comprehensive experience in an acute hospital setting, including a range of post qualification rotations at Band 5 and Band 6 level
* Experience of complex caseload management and discharge planning
* knowledge of cognitive assessments compatible with patients with post critical illness
* lone working
* Experience of working with Occupational Therapy students, either as a clinical educator or supporting a clinical educator
* experience of working under pressure
* Previous Band 6 expereicvne or equivalent levels of responsibility
* Experience of postural management
Practical and Intellectual Skills
* Up to date clinical skills and specialist level assessment skills
* Ability to problem solve
* well developed communication skills- empathy, negotiation and motivation
* good understanding of roles within the MDT
* Analytical thinker
* Reflective practitioner with portfolio evidence to support this
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Able to work in highly stressful situations
* Able to concentrate for long periods, including during patient treatments (for 20+ minutes). Able to work with frequent interruptions.
* Actively participate in, and record, CPD activities and in-service training.
* Keen to share knowledge and training across all health care professionals
* ability to work flexibly, including regular weekend working
