Are you a motivated and compassionate Dental Nurse looking to take the next step in your career within a specialist setting? We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Specialist Dental Nurse to join our forward-thinking, fast-paced Head and Neck Unit — a multidisciplinary team committed to delivering exceptional care across a range of services, including Orthodontics, Restorative Dentistry, Cleft Lip and Palate, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS), and ENT. This post is offered under the Annex 21 training route, providing a structured development pathway for applicants who will work towards achieving the full range of competencies required for the role. You will be supported by experienced clinicians and educators in a collaborative environment that fosters learning, innovation, and excellence in patient care.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities

1. Provide high-quality care across multiple specialties within the Head & Neck Unit.
2. Prepare and maintain multidisciplinary clinics, ensuring high standards of cross-infection control.
3. Deliver chairside assistance during procedures
4. Manage clinical appointments and prioritise tasks efficiently.

Patient Care

5. Care for a wide variety of patients in both the out-patient’s unit and theatres.
6. Support anxious or stressed patients with a calm and sensitive approach.
7. Occasionally attend satellite units or other hospital sites as needed.

Teamwork & Mentorship

8. Work collaboratively within a large, varied multidisciplinary team.
9. Mentor students and new staff members.
10. Support the senior nursing team with leadership and guidance.

Administrative & Professional Duties

11. Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in clinical areas.
12. Provide administrative support when not in surgery.
13. Work independently and take accountability for actions.
14. Flexibility to work Monday to Friday and adapt to different clinical environments.

Additional Notes

15. Welsh language skills are desirable but not essential.
16. Training and full support are provided for professional development.

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria

33. Experience in surgical procedures
34. Experience in minor oral surgery, restorative dentistry, and orthodontics
35. Significant experience practicing as a qualified dental nurse
36. Experience of mentoring students and delivering training

Desirable criteria

37. Experience working in a theatre setting and assisting with sedated patients
38. Experience in dental implantology
39. Experience working with adults and children with special needs
40. Previous experience of working in a maxillofacial department

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria

41. Registered with the GDC
42. Dental Nurse Qualification
43. Knowledge and training in specialist area e.g. sedation, dental radiography, orthodontics, maxillofacial, health promotion, or equivalent level of experience
