Mechanical Design Engineer (Piping / Hydraulics / Pumping Systems) Location: Birmingham (Hybrid, 2 - 3 Days Onsite) Contract: 12 Months | Outside IR35 | December / January Start Rate: Highly Competitive (Ltd / CIS) Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong experience in piping systems, pump hydraulics, water industry process equipment or mechanical assemblies? Are you looking for a technical delivery role where you'll be producing high-quality mechanical design outputs under the guidance of an experienced Design Manager? We are recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to support a major UK water-sector infrastructure programme based in Birmingham. This position is purely mechanical focusing on pumping systems, hydraulic design, pipework layouts, mechanical bracketry, skids, fabrications, and equipment integration. This is a 12-month contract, with strong potential to extend. The role suits someone who is hands-on with mechanical design documentation, who can produce accurate drawings, calculations and engineering deliverables in a highly technical environment. The Role Produce mechanical designs, models and drawings for pumping systems, hydraulic equipment, pipework routes, mechanical bracketry, supports and skids Carry out pump hydraulic calculations, equipment sizing and mechanical system integration Develop mechanical design documentation: 2D/3D CAD, GAs, assembly drawings, fabrication packages, BoMs Work under the guidance of a Design Manager, supporting design reviews, compliance checks and project documentation Review specifications, supplier data and technical documents to ensure alignment with project requirements Assist with mechanical design coordination across pumping, hydraulic and process systems Support site visits where required to confirm layouts, measurements or mechanical interfaces The Person Strong background in mechanical design for water, utilities, pumping, pipework or hydraulic systems Proficient in Creo (preferred) plus AutoCAD; experience with Revit/Bentley/Inventor/ANSYS advantageous Understanding of pump hydraulics, flow/pressure calculations, mechanical integration and bracketry/steelwork Experience producing fabrication drawings, piping layouts, mechanical assemblies and engineering documentation Knowledge of water-industry standards (WIMES, BS EN) beneficial Collaborative team player able to work closely with a Design Manager and multidisciplinary teams Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent); CSCS desirable Reference Number: BBBH265819 To apply for this role or to be considered for similar opportunities, please click "Apply Now" or contact Ed Douglass at Rise Technical Recruitment.
