About the role
This role is within the UK control team, responsible for periodic reporting for Tesco’s UK trading and non-trading entities. The candidate should be a self-starter, technically minded, with problem-solving skills, confident in communication, and able to toggle between detailed and strategic perspectives. It involves high exposure to senior stakeholders, providing opportunities to enhance relationships and technical expertise.
You will be responsible for
* Ensuring the timely and accurate closure of the UK period end, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and ensuring processes adhere to ICFR requirements while improving end-to-end procedures.
* Managing period-end communications, analyzing costs, overseeing the flash profit process, posting journals in general ledger and consolidation systems, and ensuring all period-end tasks are completed punctually. A thorough understanding of the UK P&L is essential.
* Handling transactions such as acquisitions, disposals, and new initiatives end-to-end, including accounting determination and alignment with guidance. Presenting accounting papers to auditors and senior leaders is also expected.
* Serving as the UK cashflow subject matter expert, explaining key movements, assisting with forecasting queries, and advising on cashflow presentation.
* Acting as the insurance subject matter expert, liaising with risk teams to set budgets, monitor performance, analyze variances, and communicate trends to senior stakeholders, including the Group and UK Finance Directors. Engaging in business partnering activities to enhance planning and modeling.
You will need
* Qualified accountant (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with 2+ years PQE.
* Experience working with cross-functional teams.
* Experience with period-end closing is advantageous.
* Proven track record of continuous improvement.
* Ability to think strategically while analyzing details.
* Skills in reviewing, summarizing, critiquing data, and conducting independent research.
* Strong technical accounting knowledge.
