Overview
Clinical Support Worker, Special Care Baby unit, Whitehaven, Band 3 - 30 hours available.
This is a wonderful opportunity to work with families and their preterm or sick babies during the period directly following delivery. The Role of the HCA is to assist the registered nurses (or other healthcare practitioners) in providing high quality patient care. You will be expected to complete all relevant training in line with the trust, regional and national guidelines, and you will be supported in this by the Special Care Baby unit. We are a small welcoming team who will support you in your professional development.
Responsibilities
* To work alongside registered nurses to ensure the highest quality of patient care. Ensuring individualised care is provided to babies and their families.
* Extend scope of practice when trained and deemed competent autonomously undertake appropriate clinical procedures relevant to the clinical area ensuring documentation is completed appropriately following procedure.
* Post holder will be expected to contribute to housekeeping and other ward/department duties as required, e.g. general tidiness, re-determined stock levels are met and clinical equipment is clean, working and stored correctly.

Qualifications and experience
Essential
* Level 3 vocational qualification OR equivalent experience; theoretical knowledge; experience of care and related procedures; clinical observations; knowledge of data protection and health and safety at work.
* National Care Certificate or commitment to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment; numeracy and literacy Level 2.
Desirable
* Undertaken relevant additional training for Clinical Support Workers
Knowledge and experience
Essential
* Experience of working in health or social care; experience of undertaking and recording clinical observations; knowledge of safeguarding and GDPR; understanding of documentation importance.
Desirable
* Familiarity with NHS and social care policies; computer skills; experience in neonatal care; trust experience.
