Receptionist/Front of House - Central London
Working Pattern: Part‑time, 21 hours per week (Tue-Thu, 08:00-16:00)

Salary: £15.20 - £16.30 per hour (based on experience)
You will be joining a long‑established, UK‑wide professional membership organisation dedicated to advancing excellence within the sciences. The organisation plays a major role in supporting innovation, education and industry standards, and operates from a prestigious historic site in central London. Their London residence also serves as a boutique events venue, hosting conferences, seminars, awards and private functions.
As a not‑for‑profit organisation, all surplus generated through its venue and activities is reinvested to support the advancement of scientific knowledge and community impact.
Your new role
As Receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for visitors, members, staff and event attendees. Working within the Hospitality team, you'll provide a warm, professional welcome and ensure the smooth running of daily front‑of‑house operations. You will work with the facilities team to ensure smooth running of the front of house area.
Your responsibilities will include:
Delivering a high‑quality reception and switchboard service
Greeting and directing visitors and notifying relevant staff of arrivals
Monitoring the reception email inbox and responding promptly to enquiries
Supporting internal meeting room bookings when required
Maintaining clear handover notes to ensure seamless service across the team
Assisting with invoice processing for the Hospitality department
Providing event support, including occasional early morning or evening coverage
Assisting with basic hospitality coordination tasks during busy periods
Supporting security and access arrangements for the building
What you'll need to succeed
Previous experience as a receptionist or in a customer‑facing role
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Confident, proactive and professional approach
Strong Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Ability to operate a reception/switchboard system
Willingness to work flexible hours occasionally to support events
