About The Role:
As a Finance Partner at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, you'll support the non-programme operational areas, working closely with teams across the organisation. You'll be a key advisor on a selection of large-scale projects, helping to shape decisions with clear financial insight. Alongside day-to-day support with budgets, reporting, and forecasting, you'll also play an important role in improving how we share financial information and strengthening financial processes across the Institute.
You Will Be Responsible For:
You'll work closely with teams across the Institute, helping them manage budgets, plan for the future, and make informed decisions. You'll be a key advisor on major projects, improve how we report and share financial information, and help strengthen our financial controls and ways of working, always looking for opportunities to do things better.
Essential Skills:
Technical Skills:
* Fully qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent or equivalent working experience
* Experience working in financial accounting/financial partnering/finance management
* Strong grasp of fundamental principles behind budgeting, forecasting, scenario modelling, activity based costing and other management accounting concepts together with a pragmatic mind-set
* Advanced Excel skills (including but not limited to pivot tables, lookups, formulae, graphs etc)
* Knowledge of MI & Reporting tools such as Oracle, Power BI and/or Tableau
* Ability to present data in innovative and visually appealing ways - e.g. Dashboards, Presentations, Graphs/Tables

About You:
You will be a confident and capable finance professional, with strong technical skills including Excel. You will bring a proactive, solutions-focused approach to your work. You will thrive on building trusted relationships, translating complex financial information into clear, actionable insights. Interpersonal skills will be key, as well as the ability to pivot and work on different types of tasks.
About Us:
Our Financial Planning & Partnering team plays a key role in supporting Sanger's science and operations. Working closely with budget-holders across the Institute, we help teams plan, forecast and manage their funding effectively. We provide clear financial reporting, offer guidance on budgets, and support strategic decisions through financial modelling and business cases. We also collaborate with colleagues across the organisation to develop strong proposals for third-party funding and major contracts, ensuring financial sustainability for the Institute's work.
