Role 1 (22 hours): Monday 08:15 - 13:45; Tuesday 13:30 - 19:00; Thursday 13:30 - 19:00; Friday 13:30 - 19:00. Role 2 (23.5 hours): Monday 13:30 - 20:30; Tuesday 13:30 - 19:00; Thursday 08:15 - 13:45; Friday 08:15 - 13:45. Flexible for holiday and sickness cover.

Responsibilities
* Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
* Provide general assistance to the Practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
* Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments.
* Use judgement and communication skills to ensure patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner.
* Explain Practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed.
* Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery.
* Enter requests for home visits into the visit book, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and refer to Duty Doctor where necessary.
* Prepare lists and notes for surgeries and clinics and complete associated paperwork.
* Communicate clinical results to patients in line with GP comments; advise patients of relevant charges for private services, accept payment and issue receipts.
* Enter patient information on the computer and manage patient notes and correspondence, including filing and retrieval with alphabetical order and visibility of information on the outside cover.
* Open up premises at the start of the day and ensure doors are secure and alarms are deactivated/activated as appropriate; close the building at the end of the day.
* Register new patients onto the computer system promptly and accurately.
Qualifications
Essential
* 5 GCSEs or equivalent
* Good IT skills (Windows, word processing, printing, etc.)
* Teamwork – reliable and conscientious

* Non-judgemental and empathetic; patient, kind and caring
* Organisational skills – multi-tasking and prioritisation
* Ability to stay calm in stressful situations

* Contact with the general public in the workplace

* Maintaining quality and attention to detail
* Maintaining confidentiality
Desirable
* Working in the NHS or GP surgery environment
* Experience as a receptionist in a busy environment
Other requirements
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check applies. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and a DBS submission may be required.
