Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Fragility Hip Fracture Clinical Nurse Specialist to provide senior clinical leadership within the Musculoskeletal Service.

This is a key specialist role responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality care for patients presenting with hip fracture, in line with national standards and Trust priorities.

Role Overview

The post holder will act as the clinical expert for hip fracture care, providing professional leadership, advanced clinical assessment and specialist advice across the full patient pathway. Working collaboratively with Orthopaedic Consultants, Orthogeriatricians and the wider multidisciplinary team, the role will ensure timely treatment, effective discharge planning and continuous service improvement.

The post holder will also contribute to governance, audit and performance monitoring, including oversight of the National Hip Fracture Database and compliance with Best Practice Tariff requirements.

Main duties of the job

1. Provide senior nursing leadership for the hip fracture pathway across all clinical settings
2. Deliver advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with fractured neck of femur
3. Work collaboratively with the MDT to optimise patients for surgery and minimise delays
4. Ensure patient-centred communication with patients, relatives and carers throughout the pathway
5. Lead audit, data quality and service evaluation to support continuous improvement
6. Support education and development of staff involved in hip fracture care
7. Contribute to governance, mortality and morbidity reviews and Trust-wide forums
8. Act as an independent non-medical prescriber within scope of practice

Working for our organisation

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for the maximum period of 12 months. Where there is potential, the secondment/ fixed term contract may finish early, or in the first instance, the secondment/fixed term contract may be extended due to the internal/external secondment of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and secondments in relation to the substantive post holder.

Please note all existing NHS staff will only be considered on a secondment basis. This must first be agreed with your current line manager.

13. Registered Nurse with NMC
14. Post registration at degree level or working towards
15. Evidence of continuing professional development
16. To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.

20. Experience of working and liaising with the multidisciplinary team
